19” Tyre Recommendations

Hello everyone, Im taking delivery of a new T6.1 Caravelle 199 Exec next week. I was looking around for 19 inch wheels to upgrade from the standard 17's. Got talked into buying a set of 19 ET40 9.5j wheels since i liked the design and the gunmetal colour matched the Reflex silver paint. 8.5 j wheels for the same design were out of stock.
Could anyone share some knowledge on the right size tyres for these wheels please. Seller advised on 255 40 R19 for the 9.5j rims?
I am new to this forum and have never used a similar vehicle.

Most people run 255/45s on 19" wheels. They are rated at 103 which is the maximum any Transporter needs, plus several tyre manufacturers to choose from.

No i'm not thinking about lowering, don't have a clue about vans, driven cars all my life. Im just worried about the 9.5j wheels all around. The seller said it would be alright hence asking for help and advise.

They’ll definitely be OK on the rear, but I would expect a little bit of poke at the front. The outside edge of the tyres will probably be just outside of the wheel arch at the top. Not a problem if you are running at standard height.

I run 255/45/19 on 9.5 with an ET48. If I'm correct an ET40 will push the rims out 8mm. Here's a photo:-



Tyres are Goodyear Eagle F1 rated 104

As has been said, you’ll get a bit of poke on the front.
If you do want to lower in the future they will limit your options. It would not be ideal for me, but we all have different needs.
I use an ET35 8.5j for the front with a 245 tyre that allows me to lower to about 60 mm without any issues.

I'm no expert but that sounds about the same as Amorok 19's which imo fit great on the front and look their best with 10-15mm spacers on the rear.

the ones I’ve found r et45 and 8 inch rim how much difference to yours will they be thanks kirk

In theory the face of an 8J et45 wheel will sit around 22.7mm (3/4"ish) further under the arch than an 8.5J et35.

My opinion would be 8.5 with an ET40 offset and if your is a T28 or 30 a 245 - 45 - 19 102 tyre or 255 - 45 - 19 104 if you've got a T32. Any where in the 35 - 45 offset range will work fine though unless you're particularly low in which case a higher offset will put the wheels further under the arch.

Thanks for your reply its lowered 50mm i will look for some 8.5 found the wheels I want but they r 8j et 45 would like to run a 45 profile tyers it’ a minefield picking some wheels a lot of places r out of stock as well

It’s pretty low although I’m not sure exactly how much drop as it’s had a few different setups from new. You can see from the photos how the tyres look (255/45R19).
