The switch that a lot of our customers make is from the 275 40 20 tyres on the front to 245 45 20 , these tyres are dimensionally identical except one is narrower and there is no doubt its better for steering feel , There shouldn't be any difference in comfort as the side wall is the same .

Ben has some valid points on tyres and sizes but because his van is low tyre sizes become more critical . The use of 275 40 20 tyres is massive and grossly misunderstood through out the transporter industry , particularly by Discount warehouses ,

Sadly, Load rating and brands all vary and results are all different , Customers experiences are also different so it very hard to stake the ground with an all around ideal set up .
Cjscos if you are comparing a 245 40 20 to the 275 40 20 , it wont be as comfortable because you will loose 12 mm on the side wall and 24 mm in overall diameter !

Lets face it using sports car tyres and wheels on a transporter isnt ideal but its such a big business it wont stop happening and as long as we watch load ratings its fine . Tyres generally wear quicker because the weight of a Transporter is way more than a sports car . .

Using tyres like 255 35 20 to go low low with the stance risks wheels cracking and tyres bulging , however the overall diameter is similar to a standard davenport set up and speedo accuracy isnt affected .

My biggest bug bear however is fitting the same size tyre to the front and rear on staggered wheels ?? this is all to common even with specialist suppliers and it just looks odd !! Once you see the difference between the front and rear , you cant unsee it ha ha

Not trying to be argumentative but that actually looks stretched to me
I think the lip of the supermetal wheels are quite thick so potentially looks more proud from the tyre than some other wheel designs would. The bead seat to tread are pretty well aligned.

My van came with the wholesaler special discount tyre bundle of 8.5j with 275 tyres. From my first hand experience this (245) is right and that (275) was definitely wrong on all counts.

a 275 tyre is 11 inches wide , mainly fitted on 8.5 J wheels ??? , it isnt dangerous or illegal but doesnt make sense that you would put all the extra stress on the steering rack and make the steering feel stiff and sluggish.

After a bit of advice/help please, as my new to me T6.1 T32 Kombi DSG 4motion came with 275/40/20's all round (not sure how much it has been lowered but maybe 40mm ?). Looking at the wheels there are 9" front and 10" rear. Would I be ok going with 245/45/20 front and 275/40/20 rear 103 load rating ? Thanks in advance as like a tyre I keep going round in circles here !

That is exactly what quite a few of us have! Works well, steering will be significantly improved. Rolling radius pretty much the same.

Can someone reassure me that I am about to spend a fortune on the correct tyres for my VW T6 T30 please?

Beautiful tyres, you haven't got staggered wheels have you? What is the width of your 20's? I have those on my 8.5 fronts and 275 on my rear 10's.

My wheels aren't staggered and 9J all round (not triangle as previously stated)

I have 275/40 20 on the rears and am taking the 275/40 20's off the front to put 245/45 20's on for to stop the scrub

You'll notice your steering will be betterer! You should get a reasonable deal what with the CC3's being available now. Get a good alignment done if there's monies left in the pot!

In terms of load rating, they're fine too.

Those who have gone from 265/40/20 to 245/45/20 - what difference have you noticed?

Is the gearing impacted further with them being a slightly larger diameter?

Just gone from 275/40/20 to Goodyear F1 245/45/20 and there been a marked difference in handling and a lighter more responsive steering.

What pressure is habe you been running the 245 on?

My old 275 set were around the 40psi and the tyres were worn out in the center which means over inflation!!

With the cost of these goodyears looking to get them to last as long as possible 😆
