Anyone recommend a decent flexible solar panel? Thinking I need a 150w to keep fridge going with a 130amph battery.
Its going on a skyline roof so if anyone has images of fitting and cable entry to the van that would be good.
Cheers
Hi,
I have a new T6 transporter van that I am fitting out as a camper. In terms of adding a second battery for fridge ect, I know that I need to connect via a modern dc-dc charger like a Redarc. My question is what is the best way to connect to the main starter battery for charging the second...
I am in the process of planning my leisure battery, putting it under a seat with the dc-dc charger and a consumer unit.
Location being the main conundrum.
My thoughts are:
1. Under the passenger seat leaving the option of putting a heater under the drivers seat.
2. Under the drivers seat, in...
So, I'm about to embark on the long overdue electrical installation of my van. im sure im going to have many questions along the way but one for now is.
I'm planning a more 'off the grid installation'. would I have to uprate my alternator if i were to fit 2 leisure batteries coming close to 300ah?
Hi all, I am awaiting a 2018 Multivan SWB for the growing family. Unfortunately the dealer didnt tell me about the OEM VW factory fitted second battery option. Now I have been doing some research and come across this forum.
They are offering to put one behind the rear wheel arch in the boot...
I’m about to start on the transition from van to camper.
I had a quick look at the current state of electrics and found the under the passenger the following cables, see picture, any advice?
Could these be used or is it not worth attempting as it will upset rest of the vans electrics?
Planned...
Firstly, for anyone about to fit a leisure battery under the passenger seat of a T6 and requiring a DC to DC charger I cant recommend enough getting the bits from Travelvolts, not only does he give you proper no bull advice he also provides a full kit with all the pre-wired cables bespoke to...
Hi all , Im going to install a Planar diesel night heater , not sure about battery drain on starting these things up , I have a 100ah leisure batt which runs my lighting and a small pump for tap water but no charging system in place yet I just charge at home when needed.
If I install a solar...
Hi All
I am new to the forum and to the Transporter range! I have been doing a fair bit of reading and need a little advice. In 3 weeks time I will be putting the van in the garage and starting stage 1 of a 3 year, 3 stage process:
Stage 1 - Insulation, lining and electrics (fitted inside an...
Hi, so my van originally came with a double seat which had the factory fitted second battery mounted on a metal tray underneath. I have now fitte single seat but the battery is too high when on the support tray as it catches the running rails. Do people generally fit the batttery onto a tray...
I'm having serious thoughts of extending the Factory Split charge relay live cable to the rear of the van, so i can fit any size battery i want instead of stuffing around and shoehorning a new battery under the passenger seat.
But mainly, because Its a pain to have to remover the seat, then...
Looking at adding a solar panel to my van, and someone has proposed a second leisure battery and a 60w panel. I know the panel isn't as powerful as most fit on theirs, but do people think it would be sufficient with the second leisure battery? Thanks in advance
Morning,
I have received all my bits and bobs from @travelvolts. I've got the battery strapped down neatly (after a bit if dremmeling). with the ctek 250 mounted on ply sideways that's bolted to the seat base. There is also a jl audio amp under there. So it's quite tight, but it fits and is...
I'm currently putting a split charge system into my van and am going to mount the battery undercthe passenger seat.
Has anyone any photos of how they've secured this? I don't fancy drilling any holes if I can negate it.
Regards
Here's a picture of my battery and refrigerator setup in the back of my van.
2x130AH AGM, Redarc BCDC1240 connected to the 'Analog' panel feed under the passengers seat.
The Engel 39l fridgeis around 25 years old.
The batteries are covered by a carpeted panel so are secure and hidden.
It may...
Hello
I want to enquire if anyone could confirm for me if selecting the second battery option on extras list when ordering a new van, is this in fact a leisure battery with a split charger that can be used when ignition is turned off to be used for running battery operated items when camped etc...
I'm looking to run a cable from the main battery into the cabin. Anyone know if there is an easy route through, maybe using an existing path, or do I have to think about drilling a new hole in the engine bay bulkhead (gulp). Any advice much appreciated.
While I save alittle more for the install, I am looking to source advise on pros/cons and links to house the 110ah battery under vehicle.
I do not have room under the front seats and due to changable internal use, no room to the rear.
Thanks.
@travelvolts
there's a thick cable under the passenger seat that I'm wondering what it is.
It has a barcode on it? so it looks original.
I'm fitting a leisure battery /ctek solar charger - so am hoping it could be useful.
