Duo Batteries For Bilbo's?

Hi.

This may have been covered before, but we have just got a 2nd hand Bilbo's, the dealer had fitted an 80Ah leisure battery which only gave 1.5 days running (not the 3+ days as advertised)-so a visit to Battery Megastore Tewkesbury was in order to collect the Bilbo's spec Hankook 130Ah.

As the Sergeant control panel allows the leisure side to run off the starter battery for short periods, seems sensible to fit an engine battery such as the Hankook which is dual purpose ie will provide high capacity for starting but equally won't mind occasional deep discharge...incidentally we were told the Hankook is made out of 'pure' lead rather than the recycled dog-food tins some batteries seem to consist of, which is why the Hankook will last longer and dig deeper when required.

Has anybody any experience of this, as we are fitting a Kenwood ICE unit with all the trimmings we need as much juice as possible whilst off grid?

Thanks in advance,

Dd

My advice would be don't do it. Running your head unit from the starter whilst off grid will flatten the starter before you know it. Either add more leisure batteries to increase capacity, look at solar to top the batteries up or consider a Bluetooth speaker for music while off grid.

Hi Deaky.

Thanks for the advice. had a solar on my T25 and it did make a bit of (unreliable) difference-we already have a bluetooth speaker to run off the phone-the Kenwood head will play High-deff DVD so guess this will be confined to electric hook-up only duties.....
