Are the lights functioning completely correctly in all states? Auto/Sidelights/Headlights?
yes mate, they are. Just the 'bulb error' light on the dash, the apparent turning off of the dipped beam when it was dusk (they came on when I flashed my main beam, but went back off again a few minutes later) and the DTC's.

Now the level sensors are on and I have disconnected the battery, I'll do a fresh scan.

Ok, faults cleared, VCDS unplugged, van doors and bonnet closed and van locked for a few minutes.

Unlocked, turned on, Ghost PIN input, clock reset and VCDS scan done -

If I clear DTC's, bulb error light remains even with lights switched off at the control knob.

yes mate, they are.

The dash error can be turned off but the DTCs left on the BCM.

However, I see this is a last resort type measure. Better off programming the BCM correctly.

One thing that is worth thinking about, it could be a parameters change that is needed. It's an outside chance but it's the one thing that differentiates the BCMs (why there are so many) and it's something that VCDS can't do.

I have yet to tackle an LED headlight retrofit on a T6. Done a couple of SY Crafters but that's a different beast. So I don't have much else to offer coding wise.

Ah I see, ok cheers mate.

On another note, where does the headlight range control module now go?

IMG_4454.jpegIMG_4453.jpeg

I did see that image earlier in this thread - my PDC module sits there, so im non the wiser!

That’s bizarre - the HRCM doesn’t fit in the slot where the PDC is right now. I wonder if that’s because my van is a EU5 T6, so perhaps it has a different layout (perhaps like a T5.1?)
Got a pic of where your PDC is at the mo?

Oh it's by there?! Strange, when I've dug one out previously I needed the hands of an 8 yr old girl and it was hidden up by the A pillar!

Anyway, that's to the RIGHT of your steering column, the diagram for the HRCM is to the LEFT of the column
 Oops, sorry about that

Christ - and you say the PDC module is in a bad place?!
Quick question, how come you've used a T5.1 HRCM instead of a T6?
Bought it hoping it might work. I’m presuming it can’t be flashed to work with my T6?

It should be C at the end but assuming that the last letter indicates revision only there is a good chance that it might work.
I would chance it if its priced up to £20( I got mine second hand for approx £35 including delivery).

Some extra info below

Just went for a drive. Headlights turn on with unlocking. But as I drove up my road the dipped beams turned off. Flashing the headlights turned them back on.

When I got out to check them, as soon as I pulled on the door handle the dipped came back on!
I had my wife pull the stalk and only the offside main-beam flashed initially.

Drove on and dipped beams went out, one before the other, this time.
When I turned the headlamp switch from auto, in to sidelights for a moment before on to dipped lights, nothing happened - the only light showing was the DRL / sidelights. I tried again and they didn’t come on. I drove on and flashed the lights and the dipped came back on but quickly went back out, one before the other. They did this repeatedly, only going back on when I flashed them.

Got back home and tested - both main beams work, but why only one was showing mid-drive I don’t know.

I haven’t changed any coding since my last scan here.

Any ideas, anyone?

I noticed you got bulb out warning on dash - but do the lights actually work?
That is a very good question. I don’t want to say for sure because there’s every chance i didn’t get out and check.

I’ve been re-reading this thread now I’ve installed and coded and a lot more makes sense.

I’ll jump on it tomorrow morning and check that one first.

Thanks again Matti

I would suggest disabling all PWM that relate to the low beam headlights! I know of several machines (including mine) that have never been able to completely avoid scanning errors, but the light functions completely fine! In order to understand what was wrong with the car, I tried to install a completely long coding, coding 09 addresses from other cars that are as close as possible to mine in configuration!

I can suggest you to use my entire 09 address encoding! At the same time, I am sure that you will not have an error related to the light on the cluster!

The range module sits really high up inside the dash(pretty much vertically above the pedals maybe a touch to the left), it’s mounts on a plastic bracket that is shared with the ACC module, I’m pretty sure it goes in before the dash as I have never been able to get the mounting bracket located without chopping it up, my looms are made to replicate factory fit but if you don’t have the bracket it’s just a case of fitting it somewhere out the way where it can’t obstruct the pedals or foul the steering column (any moving part)

Cheers @Pauly - I’m not sure if mine has little in the way of corresponding brackets as there’s nothing on the left of the steering column, but plenty of relay-sized holes on the right. There is a horizontal metal bracket up high that the HRCM seems to fit perfectly, the two mounting holes lining up, and as the loom fits that I have mounted it there. It’s a proper pig to get to, mind! Loom fits perfectly.

I noticed you got bulb out warning on dash - but do the lights actually work?
@mmi I’ve just changed this byte as suggested and all lights work perfectly. On a drive, they all behave as they should. I still have the ‘bulb error’ warning lamp on the dash with DTC’s showing ‘open or short to plus’ errors for both low beams.

It looks like C0 has disabled all PWM (well, at least in byte 16, whereas
- byte 11 shows bit 2 ‘Activation for Additional Position Lights via PWM active’ and bit 5 ‘Activation for Licence Plate Lights via PWM active’,
- byte 19 shows bit 0 ‘Fog Lights and/or Cornering Lights via PWM active’ and
- byte 27 shows bit 1 ‘Terminal 58D activation for BCM via PWM active’).

I’ve had a re-read of @MMi’s posts on the ‘Light Out’ thread and see mine match, so don’t know what the bulb error lamp is on for.

What are these 'position lights' in byte 11? Could that be the cause of the bulb error warning?
