So, lots of folk aren't happy about their mpg in the larger output engines, but what about the the 102 and 84ps? There're keeping quiet don't you think? Are they similarly annoyed, or do they hide a secret? Are they getting amazing mpg, and does anyone remember the Bluemotion 114ps T5.1 that was out for a short time? What was that like? Seriously though, I would like to know how these engines perform.

i got the impression that the 102 and 84ps were under powered & gutless - depending on your situation.

If you had a 102 and 84ps in a empty panel van and just poodled around every day - im sure your MPG would be very good.

if you had a 102 and 84ps in a camper conversion or a fully loaded van - im sure it would feel under powered, making you mash the "GO" peddle and making the MPG even worse.

listed specs are:

- Short wheelbase with low roof. (Urban/xtra Urban/ Combined/ Acceleration/ top speedd / CO emmissions)

weve gone from a 180ps DSG 4M T5.1 to a 204ps DSG T6 and love it. . . . . MPG "is-what-it-is", so drive sensibly and it will be fine.

normally get mid 40s out of our 102 loaded panel which averages a 200 mile commute daily at 80 mph........ all previous vans had them remapped but cant get this done until early next year due to warranty...

Thanks. That sounds pretty good.

MPG figures need to be determined by independent companies ............ not manufacturers ......

I was hoping for some owners on here with the relevant vehicles to post their real world experiences, not tables garnered from the internet. Maybe there aren’t any.

I have 102, euro 5 & 18k and have 20's on it and tow quite a lot. Small dinghy so not heavy! The computer if I drive normally says about 32 mpg if I drive very sensibly can get to ~42mpg. But I don't listen to it and I think I get over 600 per tank brim to empty, not sure what that is but 600 seems ok!

150 tsi long wheelbase with wooden shelves fill of stuff!

22 mpg on average around town, 30 mpg on motorway

Mines a 102 with 19” wheels and full conversion. Can eek out 630 miles if I drive like miss daisy but usually it’s lid to late 500’s per tank. Air con running all the time and mainly twisty B roads to and from work with lots of gear changes. Display says around 34mpg which is probably about right.

I posted my experiences in the thread I linked to further up this thread. Will try and dig them out and re-post them here.

Mine is a 102 Multivan with 17" wheels, I got about 570 miles from my first tank (70litres). Mix of motorway and hilly, twisty country roads.

We have T6 with a manual 102ps Euro6 engine and it is our "daily driver". The vehicle weighs approx 2 tonnes empty and usually has < 200kg load (inc. driver & passenger). The fuel consumption calculated from the mileage between filling a full tank each time, varies from around 32-34 mpg for fairly short journeys to around 40 mpg when touring. The overall figure for the first 8000 miles is 34 mpg. I can keep up with the traffic on the motorways and have never felt that the van is under-powered. I should add that then we bought the van, we were advised not to go lower than the 102ps engine.

From another thread:

Take our 20,000 mile, 102bhp, 2.4tonne (laden) T6 camper.
On an A-Road long cruise, we can get low 40's mpg, which I am happy with.
At 70mph on the motorway, we get 36mpg - the lower power and lack of 6th gear I guess - happy with this though.
Don't know what it is around town as we rarely use it for that.
Up and down hilly B-roads it's mid 30's - again, we are OK with that.
I bet my wife would get better mileage than me (she does on everything else we drive !).

Fuel Economy, 102ps Or 84ps
As I seem to be the only 84ps owner here, my findings might be typical
or might not, hard to say with a sample size of one!
Mine has never done a short journey, only ever 40m plus, and I get between
45 and 52 ish on the display, and no problems with motorway speeds.
Cheers
Phil
