EU6 150 CXHA Engine Oil Change

N/s area of the engine going from under the van.
My 2nd oil change 20k is happening next Friday.

Google ea288 oil filter location.

I've just had a oil and filter change on mine. Starting to be thankful I just got my local VW / Audi specialist to sort it for me
Ed at APS Brackley by any chance . He gave mine my first service, only place that I'd trust to service mine. The only down side is that they wouldn't know about recalls or complete any factory updates. Other than that, price, service and trust makes them a winner every time.

You bet ya mate. I've got a service plan with VW but I ain't waiting 2 years before replacing the oil and filter! Especially not on a 30k+ vehicle which I intend to keep for a while!

I didn't intend resetting it......I'm going to stick with the service schedule.....I just wanted to change the bloody oil! How hard can it be.........very, by the look of it!

Exactly what I've done. Left the service reminder as it was. At least this way I know the inside of the engine is being looked after and if i sell the vehicle in a few years the new owner can see it's been looked after!

Any tips ZcUK? Did you drain the filter first via the drain plug in the filter cap......did you have to move any wires or pipes to get access to the filter.....was the underbody tray easy to remove/replace? Apologies.....lots of questions mate! Only VW could make a simple oil change a right royal pain.....I'm astounded at how a simple job can be so awkward!

Changed my engine oil & filter yesterday.
Sequence (follow this entirely at your own risk....):
- Remove undertray - 6 bolts, 13mm socket.
- Drive van to get oil up to temp.
- Release oil filler cap.
- Remove sump drain plug - 19mm socket - leave oil draining.
- Remove oil filter drain - centre of oil filter housing cap. It will drain without hitting any items.
- Remove oil filter housing cap when housing has finished draining - 32mm socket.
- Remove old filter and both of the cap seals - replace all with new bits.
- Lubricate filter cap O rings with fresh oil.
- Refit oil filter housing drain in cap - don't over-tighten, just needs to be nipped up.
- Refit housing cap with new filter installed - hand tight then torque to 25Nm.
- Refit sump drain plug with new sealing washer - I actually fitted a new magnetic drain plug. Torque to 10Nm.
- Fill engine with fresh oil - 7.4 litres.
- Run engine & check for leaks.
- Refit undertray - and feel smug about a job well done.

First class YellowHound! Two (more!) questions........when removing the oil filter drain plug and oil filter cap, did you have to unclip anything or snip any cable ties.....or could any pipes/wires etc just be moved out of the way? Is the oil filter drain plug undone with a socket or allen key?
Cheers mate......like I said.....first class!

Nothing impedes access to the filter housing - save for the undertray of course. No need to disturb anything. I used a 6" extension bar on my socket and nothing got in the way of that - it could be used at the correct angle.
The filter is at the front side of the engine block, around the middle, perhaps slightly more to the driver's side.
Sump drain is on the back of the sump itself.
Filter drain is a socket - I confess I can't remember what size though - 10 or 13mm maybe.
The only aspect I lifted the van for was to help with releasing the rear of the undertray. There is a central plastic retainer which needs to be freed.
I lifted at one of the front jacking points using a trolley jack and placed an axle stand under the lower control arm pivot at the chassis side.
Do not get under your van if supported by just the trolley jack - heard of way too many people being killed because they thought it couldn't happen to them.

can the oil service indicator be reset without the Inspection? I'd like to retain the Inspection notice (VW Factory timings) while resetting the the oil info after I've done the change.

I’m glad it’s not just me that looked at this and thought it looked like grief!
