Now I've changed engine oil & filter in plenty of cars, but it's usually very easy to spot the oil filter location.
Embarrassingly I'm struggling to find it(!).
I've read the maintenance document available for download, found a pic on here on another thread, but I'm still looking.
Can anyone offer (further) guidance?

Also, it appears that the whole undertray has to come off, which I find baffling. BMWs that we have sport a small access cover in the undertray that is removed to access the oil drain plug.
Am I missing the obvious?

TAI for any help & guidance!

The oil suction systems that go down the dipstick pipe are proving a popular method for home oil change.

Anyone?
Someone must have changed their engine oil on this forum - please can you offer some guidance?

Ok, so this is just embarrassing.
Have just spent another 10 mins looking around the upper area of the engine - I just cannot see an oil filter housing.
Despite reading another post which indicated a location at the upper RHS side of the engine (presumably RHS when looking at the engine from the front of the van) I cannot locate it.
Which suggests to me that either I'm a blind numpty, or it is indeed only accessible once the undertray is removed.

Looks as though I need to remove the undertray to go any further - can anyone confirm this?

Yes underneath, its the smaller engines that have it on top, the picture is a bit misleading but includes the engine mounting frame so it assumes its taken looking up at the underside...

@Loz
Confession - just have. I had downloaded an oil change document from the VIP area so just assumed that what you've posted above was exactly the same.
Just looked at it and it is not - it contains far more in the way of diagrams and description.
Digesting it now.....

Actually the info in that document is very different, including torque figures. Good job you posted it!
Thanks

If you look from above down between the battery and the engine towards the back you can see the top of the filter housing , at least thats what i though anyway...may be wrong
Crap picture but center of shot ?

I'm out of time for this week so will aim to pull the undertray and get the oil change complete next week.

I've done numerous oil changes in the past.......but buggar me........I can't for the life in me, find the oil filter housing! I think they forgot to put one in mine (150 eu6)! Mrs MD would say I was having a man look! I also can't believe I have to remove a giant under tray to get to the sump.....has anyone done that.....is it a pain, cos it looks it! I don't really want to use a suction device....I'd much rather drain it through the sump plug. Any words of wisdom?
By the way......Halfords have a great offer on Castrol Edge at the moment.

I'm going to tackle mine this week. If you have to remove the undertray to access the filter then there's no sense in using a suction device.
My intention is to post a sort of how-to.

That would be good YellowHound. Looking at StudleyGlass's pic, I should be able to access mine from the top.......if I can find it? If it is on top, I don't HAVE to remove the under body tray and could get a way with just using a suction device....but I don't want to. I want to drop the oil from the sump.....like I always have done.....I'm a dinosaur!!

I've just had a oil and filter change on mine. Starting to be thankful I just got my local VW / Audi specialist to sort it for me

I know what you're saying.......but surely I can't be beaten by a simple bloody oil change.......can I??????????????

haha, but can you reset the service indicator? :)
I didn't intend resetting it......I'm going to stick with the service schedule.....I just wanted to change the bloody oil! How hard can it be.........very, by the look of it!
