Done some measuring and nearest part the calliper is to the rim is 5mm.

This ok??
I would say it’s fine. I will measure my Devonport’s when I get five, as these are factory fit on a T32 too. I suspect I have about the same and so as VW intended.

Do the Wildpeaks come in 235/55/17 as opposed to 235/65? If so, anyone got any pics?

I’m looking to swap my stock 16” wheels for some swamped style alloys. Like the look of the wild peaks but think they look a bit “ballooned” at 65. I prefer the squarer edge look of the the BFG’s, but think the Wildpeaks would be better all round for 90% road use right?

Having done some miles on my wild peaks I’m very happy with them.

Depends on the width of the wheel I guess. Your stick 16” will be pretty much the same as my Devonport’s, so will look meaty with 235’s irrespective of the height.

Hi everyone… I’ve been following this group for a long time, but I’m only speaking up now. I’d like to ask for your advice and opinions.

I have a T6 2WD. I’ve done an incredible amount of work on it and I’d hate to sell it, but I’m starting to look a bit toward light off-road use — nothing extreme (wet grass on a gentle slope, mud, stones, meadows, forests, beaches).

Would it make sense to fit BF tires on it? Which wheels and what tire size is the biggest it can handle? The suspension is completely stock. Or would it make sense to modify the suspension right away?

And if I eventually save up for a 4WD T6, would it make sense to just transfer everything over to the new one later?

Thanks to everyone for your opinions — you all have incredible vehicles, every single one of you.

The right wheel / tyre combination on your T6 will improve the off road capability very significantly and you could potentially use them on a 4Motion T6 if you buy one at a later date.
Any suspension upgrades that you make are likely to improve it's road manners but unlikely to make it better off road in the situations you describe, although a suspension lift would give more ground clearance that seems to be beyond what you say you are looking for and I wouldn't bother on a 2WD anyway.
You mention beaches - be very careful, even capable off roaders can get caught out on beaches, the tide waits for no man, and they're a corrosion nightmare.
TBH I've used my 4M T6 in forestry work, in muddy fields and on wet grass just using All Season tyres at standard height with no issues, although a dedicated A/T tyre would be better.

Good to see another 4mo pootling around in the mud! Never had a problem using standard all-seasons in stock size (doesnt mess with the gearing)...but do accept the A/Ts do look better :)

I already tried fitting wheels once on the stock suspension — 255/65/R17 — but it didn’t work out. I only drove about 5 km; it went straight fine, but corners were a problem… they were rubbing. That’s why I’m asking....

I sleep in the car and carry an enduro bike inside, so I’m thinking about AT tires… and the suspension as well. I’m planning to replace the suspension anyway (it’s old and worn), so I’m wondering whether it makes sense to go straight for a lifted setup instead of staying at stock height....

I was working in farming and forestry at the time and initially thought about trading it for a HiLux or similar but I found that with a bit of care and common sense it could do everything I needed it to do so I kept it.

Have a browse of some of these threads for inspiration, some are more relevant than others to your situation;

To be fair, some of the decision making will depend how deep your pockets are!

I ran 255 / 55 / 18 Davanti Terratoura A/T's for a four years on my old 2WD T5.1 Swamper ( before it was lifted and after - as pic )

They were great tyres, inexpensive, white lettering and not too noisy on road. Good grip at wet festivals / off road.

Filled the arches nicely and NO rubbing. ( I miss that yellow bus....)

Very tempted to use them again on new T6.1 4Motion high top project.

Do Swamper wheels and tyres affect the ACC at all? I know the different sizes can have a bearing on the Speedo, so I’m assuming this can effect the ACC.

I’ve not had any issue with mine (running 17’s with 245/65’s - would’ve gone with 235’s but they weren’t available at the time
I ordered the alloys).

I still can’t get my head around what the difference in those two size of tyres would do, is it the look or something more?

Basically the 245 would stick out a bit more than the 235. Not really an issue unless the van is very low.
Can I ask as I’m new to all this the 245/235 is the width, correct? What I want is either 17/18 wheel but I don’t want a tyre that looks like a ballon/ massive tractor type look. What would you recommend I see everyone getting various 55/65/70! That’s the bit that really confuses me, I’d love the look of 20s but with our roads and my back I couldn’t take it. So I want something comfortable but look good and not like I’m driving on big over inflated tyre.

Yes 235/245 is your width. 55/65/70 is the tyre wall height. A 55 won’t look as tall as a 65. Mine below are 235/65 with a 17inch wheel. Judge for yourself if they look like balloons. I don’t myself and I love the ride & handling.
