Webasto and Eberspacher..
Could any one let me know the best of the two units?
Looking for a external mount unit with built in temp sensor for inside the van also want to switch with mobile app
I have a Chinese heater fitted at the moment (supposed to be 2kw?) ,it works well but its hard to control the temp in the van .Its either too hot on low setting or have to turn it off then gets cold.
Thanks
John

Why not autoterm/planar as another option ?

I always had Webasto in my barges and heard of more issues with Erbasplutterrs over the years.

Hissss...... advocating supporting the russians. ( Autoterm still owned by Russians who have changed their address to Israel to get round sanctions, I have posted the proof from their current company registration several times)

If a 2Kw piece of chinese junk is too hot at the lowest setting you have no choice whatsoever. A 2Kw Webasto will still be running at 900w at lowest output. You are searching for a smaller heater that does not exist! Even the old 1.8Kw Webasto was still 900w at 1/2 heat.
The Eberspacher D2 (2.2Kw) lowest is 850w.

Have you got an external temperature sensor on the chinese junk? If so seems like you have it positioned incorrectly. Even the chinese heaters should throttle down as they reach the set temperature. You don't want a built in sensor - they all have that - you want an external one.

Thanks for the replies
Chinese heater does not have temperature sensor (supposed to have one in the digital controller)? but not 100% It is very hot so I am thinking it is a 4kw not 2kw hard to tell but did order the 2kw.
Its more to keep it on low tick over at night time like we have in our caravan ( Alde system) i know its a wet system in the caravan but want the van to be able to keep the chill off at night.
Autoterm looks good for the money

As @oldiebut goodie says - tis Russian.

The new Eberspacher has upgrades that imho make it a bit better than the Webasto.

yes like the altitude sensor built in and the quite pump
My heater ticks like a grandfather clock even if it was supposed to be the quite one.

You have had the altitude sensor and quieter pump with the Webasto Air Top 2000STC for some time - Eberspacher have finally caught up!

You can have one.
I fitted an Evo40 just because I could choose out of a dozen or so in the workshop. I married up a HTM100 Telestart to it.

Even in Spain we get cold now and then. We have a autoterm heater fitted (not by me) and man can it pump out the heat.

"@oldiebut goodie
are you against the autoterm heater ?

thanks"

Not as a product but as being made from Russian parts and being owned by Russians and the profits going to Russia - yes.

One supplier's view on Autoterm:

Due to the current Russian situation, we have withdrawn all Autoterm / Planar heater products from sale / installation.

Autoterm heaters as a brand are owned by a Russian company called Advers.

The company continues to manufacture / supply from there today. They are NOT European heaters as some sites are attempting to claim to avoid restrictions and deceive potential customers.

They are also now stating manufactured in Latvia, however just where are all the component parts originating from?

This is borne out by available images which show the new 'production' plant - all seem to show assembly or finished product. No sign of any PCB manufacture, casing manufacture etc etc.

Now ask yourself where is the finance paid going? Long established companies do not gift away rights to their products to newly set up entities. In the real world it is the other way around by the way of loyalties to the parent company.

The same suppliers also mask the name and use Planar instead (the old name prior to rebranding). They are the same!

Consider how any warranty claim will be delt with if they cannot access parts in the future and ask yourself if you really want to support the Russian economy, in anyway.

Remember it only takes a few pence to manufacture a bullet from any taxes generated on Autoterm sales by the Russian regime, sadly the same bullets kill innocent civilians.

Well ours was fitted before the war started, so I´m happy enough with autoterm. At the end of the day it´s not the companys fault that he started the war.

Not an expert but my understanding is that Webasto and Eberspächer are on a (good quality) par.

The better way to decide (given they are basically both good) might be based on fitting and support: are you doing it or getting it fitted?
If the latter which one are they most familiar with?
Have you got a specialist in either close for on-going servicing?

I'm the same, fitted before the war and been good.

To give some right of reply the uk importer says about the Russian ties...

'As for the Russian thing, the managing director and his family were born Ukrainian and still have family there, so you can be sure they do not want to support the “special operation” any more than we do. I hope this helps.'

I suspect the truth on it all we will never no for sure

The director ( there were two ) has changed his address from Russia to Israel to get round the sanctions - I have posted the proof several times.

I fitted my Chinese heater with the under slung bracket etc.
Servicing in the future, I will strip the unit myself as have always built engines and am a CNC machine tool engineer and electrician.
Its just the best quality and functions I am looking for.

I know its Russian and don't want to put money in to their fund but its good quality for the money and good features.
so struggling why not to purchase one.

Ah then my attempt at providing a way to decide isn't going to work!
As I said my understanding is that they really are on a par... the recent Eberspaecher upgrade introduced a quieter fuel pump (without the ticking noise) but from what @oldiebut goodie said above (who does sound like he has more expertise than me), that was just Eberspaecher catching up with Webasto.
cheers

I'I bought my van before the war kicked off and the Autoterm was already fitted but I'm happy to keep it today - my money has already been spent and there's not much that I can do about it now. I'll confess that I didn't really know anything about diesel heaters at the time other than a quick Google telling me that Planars generally had a good rep. If I was buying tomorrow I wouldn't go anywhere near them though (for moral rather than technical reasons!).
