It’s not a looker for sure

This is the only way to look at it.

I’ve got a 100+ miles to do so will report back - it’s certainly doesn’t seem like a direct Caravelle replacement more a crossover to the cars….
Is it a replacement for the T6.1 Caravelle? As for look Transporterhq seem to think mods will make it a looker.

This is certainly a vehicle that has divided opinion on our socials!

We had the T7 Multivan Style LWB 1.4T EHybrid for two days to test as a replacement for our Caravelle Executive.

How was it?

It drives very well with light and accurate steering and a clever hybrid system - in fact you forget you are driving a vehicle of this size most of the time. We had it with 7 adults in it and was no issue at all, returning excellent MPG, handling and performance.

The technology in the T7 is very good; keyless entry, wireless Apple car play, heated seats all round, radar cruise, matrix headlights to name a few - this really has all the tech you’ll ever want. The flexible seating options in the rear works really well, especially as you could have the 2nd or third row with three seats in it - however you can’t however have the rear seats facing each other when driving, only stationary.

We find it strange that it has T7 in the name - this feels more of a large Sharan(as pointed out above by @dubber36 ) with some van features in it. We think when the T6 replacement comes out there ‘May’ be a direct Caravelle replacement - maybe not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The negatives we found were the subjective looks - but we know we can improve these with wheels, suspension and styling- not sure the black/red suits it. The interior plastics feel cheap in places - like most vehicles now! The interior isn’t as big as the Caravelle - although as mentioned it got 7 adults in but was snug. And finally the price - it’s not cheap, but what is these days? ‘Our spec’ is around £73k……

The big question - are we ordering one as a replacement - YES. It’s definitely a step in the right direction for VW and I’m sure we will all warm to the looks as we have with the familiar looking Caddy, and it’s will be another vehicle on our rental fleet with hybrid technology. You’ll be able to hire it when it arrives and see for yourself.

Next up for the fleet will be the ID Buzz…….watch this space

And we managed to clean it for some better pics;

And elsewhere in the BMVS Sport shop we have a huge build going on with this brand new T6.1 Kombi 4Motion, going for a Caravelle 6 seat conversion

2D9EB29A-7CAC-4338-883A-CC9ECCC77294.jpeg

Paul has full stripped the interior and we are/have adding the following;

▫️Full sound deadening
▫️Caravelle rails with black carpet
▫️Rear quarter windows
▫️USB/C power sockets
▫️Speaker upgrade and subwoofer
▫️Full dash strip and paint
▫️Webasto heater with factory ducting
▫️Interior LEDs
▫️Virtual cockpit upgrade
▫️Carpet and insulation
▫️6 seater Nappa leather with front GTI bolsters

With the interior nearly finished it’ll be onto the exterior- all the plastics have been stripped for painting, coilovers, wheels, body styling.

We are very excited for the build and can’t wait to fully show it off when finished.

As you know we work on both cars and vans across our two workshops. This week we were very lucky to have this stunning BMW M3 CSL in for wheel balance - I remember when these were very affordable. What a beautiful car.

Excellent report Bognor Motors - thank you. One question - what was rough mpg for the Multivan? The Buzz is also being built on a car platform so apart from looks and fully electric don't expect it to be better build quality.
The next generation commercial Transporter is being built at the Ford factory in Turkey and will share components with the Transit. Germany production is aimed at recreation / family vehicles so might have to grab latest T6.1 while it exists.

Agree that the black/red doesn't suit and this isn't helped by the fact that the darker colour is on the top - most T6 2-tones have the lighter colour on the top, which seems to work better IMO.

This looks interesting. I have been thinking about the viability of buying a LWB Kombi 4mo, as my T6.1 Caravelle is just a little short on interior space. I wanted the 4Mo and Exec spec when I ordered it over a LWB SE 2WD, and now of course you can’t buy either. The multivan looks awful and is too small internally.

Can I ask what sort of cost this conversion would run to please?

I’m assuming I would use fully loaded Kombi with Window Van pack as base vehicle (no doubt on long lead in for delivery).

Thanks. Without a charge in the battery and 7 up it was mid 30’s which I thought was good. For a similar journey in our Caravelle I would have hit around 10mpg less I think. Looking forward to getting stuck in to modifying it.

Details are still few and far between on the new transporter bar what you’ve said really- certainly going to be interesting that’s for sure

We have over 100 T6.1’s on order so hopefully we are good for a little while :cool:

These builds are very much quotes in an exact specification as all are different - it also depends on the supply of the Caravelle interior, which are very few and far between at present! Drop us your details on our contact form and we can have a chat.
We have lots of Kombi’s on order and to be fair we can retrofit the rear windows anyway. We may have the spec you are after.
@BognorMotors

Are they all the way down?
Do you remove/modify the rear bump stop at all?
Thanks
