Startline Steering Wheel Upgrade

Hi all, fairly new to the forum, and to the t6! Hopefully this is the correct place to ask... If replacing the standard startlne steering wheel with a mfsw with cruise control buttons, would cruise control work without any other changes? The van doesn't have cruise as it stands. I assume cruise is a separate entity but thoughts I'd ask the question, cheers
No it will not work, cables need to be installed from the wheel into the dash to get the buttons working and from the wheel to the engine bay ecu to get cruise working then it all needs to be coded in

Cheers for that, following this thread I'd be happy doing the wiring into the dash but the coding and the wires to the ecu is a job for a professional I think!

Hi Guys ref up grade to Startline steering Wheel, I also done mine but used Professional Retrofits, who were superb and failry priced for what i got.

Any way i started with a startline and is completly a differnt van now, and throughly enjoyed the the build process.

left a link to what i have done just in case it helps anyone else in the same process.

Cheers.

Front Bumper upgrade

Bought a leather MF steering wheel with paddles from Germany via eBay for my 69 plate startline which came with a plastic steering wheel and trip on wiper stalk.
Left the trip button in place.
Clock spring connector:
Removed horn wire from pin 11 so cruise control button does not sound horn when pressed. The removed wire was left taped in the loom so can be refitted later if needed.
Added cruise wire to pin 11 in its place which goes off to the E-box under the battery pin 1 of lower T10 black connector, NB two black connectors in my E-box, just make sure you have a black/yellow wire on the other side of the plug to the terminal you are trying to fit 000 979 025 E or if you want a thicker wire to make it easier to line up and fit 000 979 150 E
Req repair wires for clock spring connector =000 979 009 E (tinned contact denoted by E at the end. EA are gold plated contacts. Same for all repair wires. NB don’t pair tinned contacts with gold plated contacts as the contact resistance will be higher. So tinned with tinned, gold plated to gold plated).
Pin 9 needs an ignition feed from fuse SC 32. Easiest place for me is the black wire on pin 4 of the headlight switch spliced into it.
Prior to coding, when turning the ignition on the MFSW buttons will light up, they do not light up when turning the lights on.
AFTER coding the buttons only light up when turning the lights on which is correct.
Also after coding, the horn will work even though the wire was removed from pin 11 (previously used to sound the horn). Prior to coding the horn will NOT work.
Pin 10 LIN wire another 000 979 009 E repair wire was fitted and run initially to the white plug T73b/36 which on my van was not populated even though it has electric windows, DSG, and EU6. This did NOT work on my van.
Pin 17 however was populated with green/blue wire so I tapped into that and all started working.
So look to see which has a green/blue wire going to it and tap into that wire if it is in 36 or in my case 17.

CAUTION the two plugs A and B on J519 have a black and a white shroud, only remove one plug at a time if removing the outer shroud to insert wires to avoid confusion.
Once the inners are removed from the outer coloured housing they fit in either outer housing, then you could mistakenly fit the two plugs in the wrong A or B slots. It is only the outer cover that is mechanically coded, the inners can be fitted in either A or B on J519!!!
If you need to add wires into these plugs during conversion work do one plug at a time or mark the plug and housing prior to taking it out of the outer housing.

Update to the black T10 plug in the E-box, 025 is the smaller pin, you need an 026 for pin 1, so 000 979 026 E

Ok update to the above. I had the audio and DIS controls working, which if that is all you need then stick with the above.
My MFSW had ACC buttons which flagged an error in the engine ecu and had no response in measured values when pressing the buttons so I obtained the normal cruise buttons (7E0 959 442 ICX red illumination as I thought the protocol may be different between the two types) and plugged them in, no good the normal cruise buttons had a similar error in engine ecu so still the same......Geerrr.

I played around with the coding but all info on google would not get the left buttons to work (the left volume control works with the right audio and DIS selection controls.
All the buttons suddenly stopped working after my fiddling so I thought I wonder if LIN connection 1 has been activated on pin 36 plug T73b white plug, I have been playing around with this for a few days, sent emails to the big converter companies but understandably no response even offered to pay for the info, anyway plodded on and as I left the wire plugged into 36 I disconnected the wire from the 17 wire and connected it to 36 again BINGO, all buttons now work.
I have now managed to get my cruise working on my MFSW retrofit.
I plugged the ACC buttons back in, the driver display shows the cruise has been selected, but it has an exclamation mark by it, plugging in the normal cruise buttons, the exclamation mark is gone and the speed can be selected. YIPPPPEEEE!!!!!

So at a later date I MAY consider going further and getting ACC to work which involves a different ABS unit with three pressure sensors built in, the standard unit only has one, and adding the wiring to allow the mode selection via a CAN switching relay (the front camera is the same but would need to be released via software to work) but for now just happy I got the cruise to work.
Coding can be done on ODIS or VCDS I have both. People who say the engine ecu can’t be coded with VCDS or Odis are wrong, both can be done but you need to know how to do it manually but that’s a different story.

Happy Dayz

Yes we can do this for you,

A popular one is the polo flat bottom which is identical to the Highline version but with flat bottom, the mk7 is popular too.

Good evening I am from the west country and looking for this upgrade and a few more lol. Where abouts are you would love to pop in and discuss options and prices

Hi all I have a 2015 t6 startline with cruise on the left stalk now I want to replace it and add multi function but what wheels will fit/work do I need one with volume controls on the left and no cruise functions on the wheel ? Thks

Sorry just to be clear I want to replace the steering wheel and leave the cruise where it is

In a nutshell, yes - one without cruise will be less of a headache to get functioning.

But as Jon says, speak to a specialist so you know what you’re biting off.

Screenshot_20200505_101409_com.ebay.mobile.jpgGood morning everyone,

I've read through a few posts on this and can't find the answer but I'm hoping someone may be able to help me.

I have a Trendline with the boring no frills steering wheel currently.

Firstly am I correct in believing this wheel will take my airbag? Secondly is there some witchcraft that will then enable me to make the MFSW buttons work for me? There is no cruise control on the wheel, just speaker and dash controls.

Thank you

Have you tried the search function and not found what you are looking for?

I'm in the same boat as Samalang, wanting to fit a MFSW to replace the bog standard one on the trendline. Anyone got experience of anywhere that has done this?
