OEM 'Discover media MIB2' head unit amplifier tech specs

Hi,

looking to add some rear speakers, but wanted to first check if anyone knows the tech specs of the internal amp of the VW T6 2018 'Discover Media MIB2' head unit in terms of power output and what impedance it is capable of driving. I've got a set of Blam 2 ohm components already fitted up front and have been eying up some similar Blams for the rear that also present a 2 ohm load. I'd like to check that the onboard amplifier is able to drive both sets without melting?

Thanks :)

power output is all thats listed from VW.

@Absolut5 may have some additional info:

2ohm Speakers are efficient but the factory headunit lacks in output/quality and there is a chance you will fry the voice coils due to clipping, I suggest adding a compact amp, this will make a huge difference in volume, bass and dynamics

We do a superb plug and play play compact digital amp that fits behind the dash..

Im trying to find out which one of these settings would be applicable to the Discover Media Head unit.

Thanks for any info.

I’m after doing the same. I already have an Alpine power amp from a previous vehicle that I want to fit under my rear u shaped seating.
Is there a pre out for the rear or is there a harness that I can run to the amp?

There is no pre out only line level. You'll need some sort of line - aux level converter

Thanks for the info. My amp has both inputs so I need an adaptor for the rear speaker outputs.
You can either purchase an ISO pass through with the rear speaker cables connected or just get 4 ISO pins and connect the rear loom to your existing ISO connector. @Absolut5 will be able to provide anything you need

Any idea how to conet oem amp to factory head unit? Thanks
I actually bought the Plug & Play amp + loom kit from AbsolutT5 late spring last year. It is essentially an ISO to ISO loom that plugs into the VW OEM radio head unit, goes to the small amp including power supply, which then in turn connects to the rest of the standard loom to hook up with the existing speaker loom. Great little solution TBH. The only wiring you need to do is unplug the ISO clamp and plug it into the new one - ie. none!422CFD6E-61D8-4C43-8A37-957A37FEAFA1.jpeg Doesn’t go madly loud so don’t expect Windows/panels shaking, but it massively improves clarity, increases frequency range that the speakers try to cover and most importantly removes the shouty muddle that the basic amp in the VW head unit delivers.

I have slotted the amp into the space above/behind the glovebox, which is AbsolutT5 recommended location. It’s an incredibly easy job if you’re able to undo a few torx bolts and remove some plastic dash trim and took me (a ham fisted chap) less than 2 hrs.
