All terrain tyres - recommendations and pictures

245/65 R17 AT3WA's are 111 rated so that's also a factor, they'll be slightly stiffer than a 108 rated tyre so possibly a bit less comfort. But also stronger?
Hi. I was looking at 225/65 r17s, as my Kombi is lowered.
The AT3 Wildpeaks of that size are only 102 rated.
Hence I went for Avon AX7s
I didn’t want to go as big as 235/65 r17s in case of rubbing/under-reading of speedo or ‘looking’ wrong.
The 225/65 r17s also have an almost identical diameter/rolling radius as the 265/45 19s I intend to fit into my 19x9 Summer wheels
I have 265/60/18 cf1100 on mine and they just rub on a hard full lock just on the very outside of the mud flaps it's so fine you can only see it when they are muddy but thinking might put 235/60 on the front and move the others to the rearThese are so much a Chinese BF Goodrich KO2 knock-offNot sure if that's a good thing or not! They're the Comforser Cf1100. They're about half the price of a KO2, £110 for a 225/65R17 Vs £220 for a KO2 of the same size. Speed and load rated too, 102T for the 225/65.
Trying to get these Falken Wildpeaks fitted. Mechanic was having trouble today getting a couple of the tyres to seat on the rim.
It was getting late in the day so he's going to have another crack at it tomorrow morning. He reckons the tyres have been sat in a stack and slightly deformed, making them more difficult to fit. Not the first time he's seen it with higher profile tyres apparently.
Still, I wasn't expecting there to be an issue. Anyone else had this problem?

Only once after running a tyre off road a very reduced pressure I just jacked the vehicle and used a more powerful pump and POP it went back on. It may have gone on any way if I ran on a little and retried but it was food for thought what if I did not have the pump with extra womph or could not jack up the latter quite possible off road.
I actually ordered this exact combo but changed my mind on the alloys at the last minute. Do love the Katos though! and a 30ET so will sit nice with the side of the van. Watch out for you sliding door (especially if carpeted and wheels are muddy) - door will only just clear the wheel.
what pumps do people carry in the van (if any), I'm looking for something pretty compact thats reliable.
I think that their was a thread or post about that a little while ago . I have not quite have the time right now but could look later one is a twin off road pump quite powerful the other something we all carry a Halford reasonable power but more convenient with presets.
The pumps that i use run the big risks of blowing a fuse so I always connect direct to +ve and an earth usualy engine hoist ring under the rubber cover or the bonnet shot on the front grill

Britpart pump shop around very powerful very fast heavy little awkward I do not trust gage so always recheck which I do anyway so same for any pump.
I use this gauge always agrees with other similar gages so have several in different vehicles. have used others but all give different readings
Oh always do cold, keep tyres out of direct sun. If suspecting a tyre is down when out and about check its pair and then the affected side pump up to match pair when hot.
It will be fine (but close) with a 235/65/17 on the Kato's (ET 30).
If you go for the 245/65/17 tyres on those rims (ET of 30).... not so much ;-)
TallPauls wheels have an ET of 35 so dont sit as proud (its only 5mm but makes all the difference if your door is carpeted etc) and we're not even talking about the clearance in the arches.
I'm far from an expert on this but spent waaaay to much time investigating 17" rims and tyre sizes fairly recently so this is all pretty fresh in the mind.
The 235/65/17 only just fits in the rear arches without fouling the inner plastics (about 8mm). Nothing a bit of time and a heat gun cant fix though.

Yeah with my 245/65's I could barely fit a fag paper (is that still a unit of measurement? ) between the tyre and that bit of the arch liner on the drivers side - the passenger side was fine though. And now I have a few thousand miles on them they've got a bit of clearance.

I do have a kiravans door store on the sliding door, but having had a look at pictures of the caravelle door trim, I think the kiravans door store is actually thinner, so I think it should be ok. I read the caravelle trim sticks out 20mm
In fact, it's almost flush with the door, just been and took a pic. Theres still an element of 'fingers crossed'. Only one way to find out

235/65/17 on ET35 rims..... I have more of an issue with the wheel arch than the tyre, but there is only about 15mm between the tyre and the door.
She's tight! and that's after she'd done a few thousand miles all around Europe!
