OEM Headunit Problems [Merge]

Thanks for the info, interesting that SatNav systems wouldn't fit just the screen on it's own, did you get a price for screen and board replacement?

I think you are right, our units do seem very unreliable which is a shame because I really want to keep mine, I much prefer stock to after-market.

Something I forgot to mention above is that since I replaced my screen I have noticed that the overlay quite often appears when the reversing camera is on the display. The overlay is triggered by the proximity sensor so it shouldn't show unless a hand is near the head unit. I don't remember it doing this before the screen was replaced, and wouldn't have thought it would have anything to do with the screen.

I'm just going to sit tight for a while and see what happens. I read a post back on page 2 or 3 of this thread where someone said theirs was bad, or worse, when something was plugged into the USB. I've done a couple of short trips recently with nothing plugged into the USB and it has been absolutely fine with everything working as it should. I do plug my phone in on longer trips so we'll see what happens, I will report back.

Thats really bad news, what a shame you couldn't repair yours.... that would have been an excellent solution for very sensible money.

It will be interesting to hear if @Pauly has any luck with his junk screen....
I've lost the email now but think it was about £600

VW Vans at Preston quoted £2960! I have a replacement head enroute from Retrofit South West to exactly same spec as what was fitted.
I now have my original head unit and cannot decide what to do with it.

Well it has arrived. Only visible difference is App button where there original had Traffic. I will pop it in shortly and see how it works.

Had a problem with the navigation on Discover media (Multivan T6.1). The navigation was in a constant loading mode. The van is still under the guarantee so after a few visits to the dealer they changed the entire infotainment unit. After that change the navigation works but its like the arrow on the navigation map lost its true north. Just floats randomly on the map. Generally the whole system is full of bugs, music loading poorly via usb, artworks of music is not always correct, buttons slow to respond etc. Went to the dealer again and they said its a software issue. Except that there is no update available for a Multivan. Instead they tried updating Discover Media firmware with an update patch meant for VW Arteon. Lets see if it works. I hope this info could be useful for someone.

Hi all. There's clearly an issue with a lot of head units, but has anyone actually fixed their vw infotainment? Mine screen is freezing on start up so have to reboot everytime to get it to work. Local vw centre will only look at it on hourly rate and cant book it in till september...... Thanks all.

Anybody got any idea how to fix Discover Media keypad not typing. Can't type some of the letters or even numbers on the left hand side of the screen like A or the number 1 the lines above & below are fine but the bottom line with the 123 box has to be hit maybe 6 or more times to get the numbers up.

Do you mean you have dead spots on the screen?

Ian, in the link above your post, fixes them.

We just bought our first T6- 2016 and love her. However, the touch screen for the radio etc. is not working at all- we knew this when we purchased her. We can operate the radio channels on the steering wheel , but not the "touch" screen itself is not operating. What are our options for replacement/repair? Should we look to buy a new unit? Also, from what I understand this is a common issue is this true? If we have to replace any suggestions on the how to and best place to purchase?

Brilliant, thank you. I think we will have a few things we will need to work on , but that is what we expected. We will get in touch with them!

I'll join the group of defective head units thanks!

Phantom touches all over the screen and dead spot in bottom left hand corner. I'm perusing the warranty angle from the dealership that sold me the van. If I get no where I'll fix it myself or find someone that can.

Hi just bought a 2017 t6 sport line trying to use the touch screen on the radio to put in an address but some letters work some don’t screen not very responsive any ideas please is it faulty ??
