I created this table for my T5.1 Barn Door to T6 Tailgate. In your case ignore the T5.1 column, only the Pin Number and T6 wire columns will be relevant. The numbers should correlate directly with pin and wire numbers on your tailgate. The coding can be found on previous posts on this thread. Good Luck.

Thanks! That’s great information, I think we may have a winner lol
I’ll strip things down and try to check all the wiring tomorrow then.

Quick confirmation since I’ve not seen it mentioned other than above, pin 23 on the bcm that already has a wire fitted…. I need to splice into that and solder another wire onto it?

Welcome to the forum @Palmer14. It was me who sent you over here from FB. Hope your finding the info you need. There's a full set of wiring diagrams for the rear lid in the download section if that helps.

Depends on the finish you want as there will likely be a T-connector junction in which you could populate an empty connection. I had no idea where that was, so I just spliced and soldered in a connection.

Hi matey! Appreciate the help! Been over and downloaded a few now so hopefully heading in the right direction
Thanks again!

You'll get there eventually. In principle these jobs are relatively straight forward as its all basic high school physics, however with so many model and spec variations there is an element of wading through a quagmire to get to the other side when attempting to find out how to make everything work with your model variation. I started my Tailgate conversion in May and it's still not finished. It's all fitted, all wiring complete, wiper and heated screen all work. I just need a specialist to tweak some coding for lock/unlock as the typical options aren't available to me on VCDS, keep in mind am retrofitting T6 tailgate to T5.1. The only chap I have been able to find so far that can do this for me is an 11hr round trip. As I was also retrofitting heated rear screen and rear wash-wiper I had to source the dash switch gear, which took months for the climate controller I needed to pop up for sale. The worst part was trying to find the correct size of MCR pins for the heated screen. That alone took weeks to research. The easiest part of the whole job was removing the barn doors and fitting the tailgate. I originally thought I would smash it a few days until I started converting the rear parking sensor loom to a T6 one to fit with the T6 Bumper. That when I realised this was all going to take a long time. Am just having a go at all this on my driveway, no automotive experience and minimal tools. I realise I might be painting a bleak picture, but I have very much enjoyed the challenges along the way and the satisfaction on completing each bit was immense. Just need that last mile to the finish line. Best of luck.

Is there a company who offer this conversion? Apologies if thats been asked already.

I found reading this thread helpful before I started. The list of parts required which you need to source before work can be started. The swap over removing the doors and fitting the tailgate was relatively easy and I had it done in 3 hrs. The most awkward part for me was repositioning the latch as I had to remove my towbar which I did t factor in.
The latch I had working with a welding rod connected inside the tailgate. Then pulled
up over my RIB until I had it wired in. Saved me leaning over my bed to open the tailgate.
Mines wired in and working fine but not as factory. I have to press the button on my key fob and open the tailgate at the same time. Probably not how I would have it given choice but it’s how my Autoelectrician had done it before. It works so I can live with it.

or should I just do this for £50
Yeah I thought about that. But it defo wasn’t as good as this.
I reckon it cost me about £850 to initially do , the tailgate was the biggest buy at £350 but I got £400 back for my barn doors with glass installed.

Yes, RemappingTheWay in South Wales will do it for you. I imagine parts and labour will be around £3500 all in. T6PartsCotswold sell "kits" on eBay for around £1750, but they are really only a door with window, locks, bumper & lights. Still need to buy everything else. I got all my parts on Facebook Marketplace from a chap that had decided not to convert, but had collected all the parts: Door with wiper motor, heated screen & loom, interior trim with internal open switch, hinges, bumper, bumper brackets, bumper clips, parking sensors with loom, LED lights and under light trim panels. He just wanted shot of it all, so bagged it for £1500. I specifically wanted one with rear wash-wipe and heated screen. I also had to buy the conversion kit brackets, gas struts, climate controller, stalks, MCP pins, 10m silicone hose, dual washer pump and seemingly endless meters of suitable wire. All in was just over £2000 to do it myself. I was also converting from T5.1 to T6, so maybe needed more parts than some of you. Hopefully get the T6.1 face-lift done this year, then off for respray.

The parts list is about £2500 on its own for used parts then throw in another £1000 for labour. Swapping the doors over is the easy bit and only takes a few hours. It's everything else that eats up the time.
Oh wow £3500. I’ll go with that £50 cover then :)

I’ve just had a quick look on eBay here’s what I’ve seen. There’s a full conversion kit with everything you need.

Or you can do as I did buy it all separate. My total buy was £850 for all the parts. The tailgate itself was the only 2nd hand part i bought the rest was new.

Although mine dosent have a heated rear screen or wiper so probably cheaper than if it did.
Good luck which ever way you go

I think I paid £550 for my tailgate and bumper. I sold the doors which paid for the LED lights.

I bet it cost another £100 for the heater controls, wiper stalk and washer bottle (used),

Nice find on the full rear end.

Thats win on the controls. My Climate was £150 on its own used and took me 6 months to find. I needed one with heated rear screen and heated seats (Retro fitted Audi S5 seats to work with factory controls). I did buy the stalks new, so they were £100. Washer pump with dual outlet was a £10.

Yes. The climate controls were £30 delivered and also had the heated rear screen with heated seats. It was from a Passat but works and codes fine. There are 100's of different types so when you see the one you need, jump at it.
I didn't get the correct wiper stalk set up, but you can easily keep the original LH stalk (I have the cruise control), and added the RH stalk from a new set I brought. Finding the perfect combination was too hard. Only when I had them did I realise you can modify the existing wiper arm easily to click into the rear wiper positions.

I wonder if thats a difference between the T6 and T5GP... I originally bought a climate control unit for a Passat, then a Golf and neither worked in my T5.1 so sold them on. I had to source a specific 7E Climate unit for a T5.1 with all the features I needed, which was like gold dust, hence the 6 month search. It’s rarity commanded a premium, hence £150. I didn't know the stalks could be modified, but managed to find a set with rear wiper and cruise. Every day's a school day...

Yes, the wiper stalk has a tab which stops it being pushed back to activate the rear wiper. Open it up and grind off the tab and it will work. The graphics on the stalk will be wrong but nobody looks at them.

Just to add. I wired my release handle to the interior light so when unlocked and light is on the handle works. Saves running cables to the front and coding.
What wires / PIN numbers did you connect to the interior light? And which wire/s on the interior light?

Good morning all

I’m just in the process of doing the tailgate conversion could anyone please tell me where to buy gromit to cover barn door wiring loom?

Next up is the tailgate support brackets. Without these the tailgate can wobble over bumps and causes a anoying squeek. It's supprising how much quiter the van is with them in.

Again, mark the centers and drill a 9.1mm (9mm with a wiggle), paint the body to protect it.

Use a rivet tool to insert 2 M6 rivet nuts.

Then simply screw the brackets on.

You'll notice the grommet hole for the harness to the rear barn doors is no longer used. I didn't have any grommets to cover them so I sealled them with some spare dynamat,

All done and much quieter.
do you have a part number for the tailgate support brackets please ?
