H4 To H7 Upgrade

If the Daytime Running Lights are large, square and next to the grille, they’re H4.

If they’re smaller, below the low beam and rectangular, they’re H7.

If you can see at night, you’ve got LEDs.

Hi All,

New to this forum and the whole T6 thing but seriously impressed with the info on this forum, thanks.

Apologies if you've been over this a dozen times but, it seems I'm not alone in finding out that the standard headlights are crap (my series 1 Landy is better!). I think I understand the H4/H7 stuff and what's needed to change them over. From this thread several pages ago, there was a link to an item in the forum shop:

This doesn't seem to work anymore and I can't find them in the shop. Are they just out of stock or no longer available?

@T6salopian It seems the shop is either out of stock or no longer sells them. @Pauly will be able to confirm for you.

If the forum shop is no longer an option, you could price them up/order from VW or Eurowagens if you want to buy new.

Daft question, if I change the lights over to the twin headlight H7 version, will they work normally and be OK to use before it's re-coded other than the dipped beam going off? I'm not going to be driving around with the main beam on instead of the DRL's or anything daft like that?

Yes, they will work normally.

If you are going to fit LED DRL bulbs, do it before you fit the headlights. They are a tw@ to get to otherwise.

They will be fine - You just won't have the main and dipped on at the same time until you get it recoded

They work straight away. The only thing is that low beam goes off when high beam is on.

My H7 replacements just arrived and I am starting to fit the new bulbs... How do you get the DRLs out though? I have found the plastic clip it is on, but I don't want to break it by forcing it wrong!!

It’s a bayonet fit, similar to a standard household lightbulb.

Thanks - I should now be able to swap them over!

Sadly, I opened up the second of the lights and it had been damaged in transit, so looks like there is a delay to me being able to fit them...

I sourced them from ebay - They are new. I contacted the seller and they are sending a replacement which might be with me today...

I was hoping to swap them over at the weekend...
