You’ll find Vredestein all seasons in that exact size, cheaper and a much better tyre imo.
Thanks for that - will take a look at them 👍

On another point, I am not averse to a 'chunkier' looking tyre or even one with a slightly higher side wall if it won't mess anything else up!

I've no idea how the size of Cascavals compare to my Devonports (apart from the 17" bit that is) but FWIW, I've got CC Agilis in 215/60/17 109T on my van (T30 full camper conversion). The only downside that I can find with them is that a set of 4 won't give you much change from £1K but, personally, I've never believed in compromising on tyres.

Hello all wise and wonderful tyre people!

We are currently running 235/55R17 103W on my dad's Caravelle (Hankook I think)

I'd like to upgrade these to either Michelin CrossClimate2 or Michelin Agilis CrossClimate - however as you will appreciate these tyres aren't available in the exact size we are currently running.

Can we tweak the tyre size at all? Or is there an alternative better tyre to use? Running Cascavel 17" wheels.

Let me know your thoughts/suggestions please!
Hello team Ascot Grey.
Michelin CC2 235 65 17 108W, would recommend

You should have a sticker like this in the driver's door area (on the door jamb with the door opened). This tells you what you can run for your van as per VW 'official'.
Other sizes will fit but then you'd need to probably inform insurance you're running non- standard tyre sizes. The sticker below is for my T32.
Crossclimate 2s are available in the current size. I'm running crossclimate 2s now, they're good & came at a good price from Costco In their quarterly deals but they are very loud compared to my previous tyres (Hankook Ventus S1 Evos).

My two'penneth worth.

We got almost 40k miles from the original Conti Van Contacts 215/60 17" 107/109.

Went for Conti All Season Contacts 2's at 235/55 17" 103. Paid £660 for all four at our local independent tyre place. They're 3PMSF rated.

Thus far - noticeably quieter, slightly softer ride and less harsh. The speedo seems to be more accurate, but this could be down to a new tyre having a greater circumference than a worn one. Economy doesn't seem to be affected, but it's been a cold and dark period of driving, quite laden over Christmas etc so this needs more miles to verify. I'll report back.

The Agilis comes in a 215/60/17 which is a standard size for the 17” wheels.

I'm running 4 x Agilis Cross Climates 235/60/17 on 17" Devonports. These replaced the Conti van contacts when they wore out. Very happy with them (once I got over the pain of the price). As I like to remind myself, you can have all the toys and big brakes, but there's only the 4 tyres in contact with the road. Bad tyres means you'll not stop as quickly as you otherwise might have done.

Black Circles show the new Michelin Cross Climate 3 in that size and weight rating.
The one I clicked on had a higher speed rating but that’s not an issue.

You can also get the

Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF 3

in that size - the Pirelli often beat the Michelin CC2 in tests over the last couple of years. It hasn’t been tested against the CC3 yet I don’t think. The Pirelli is cheaper too!

I looked at the Pirellis, they've got great ratings on numerous tests but they seem to get some criticism for high rates of wear.

I fell out with Pirelli’s when our Yeti failed its first MOT due to all 4 cinturatos cracking down to the cords. They had done 8000 miles.

I'm using Vredestein Quatrac Pro all season 235 55 r17 fitted on Devonports. I'm very pleased with the improvement in ride over the narrower tyres.

235/55/17 Michelin CC3s fitted a couple of weeks ago. Not driven enough miles yet to fully review, but a front pair of CC2s fitted to my Honda have done over 28k miles and are quite grippy.

I'm sort of looking forward to a new set of CC3's, but my 2 year old CC2's have got loads of life in them yet! Did well in the snow today taking doggo for her walkies. A really good all season tyre.

Exactly the same with a set of Cinturatos on the good lady’s BMW E46 Compact. Cracked to buggery in less than four years and 9000 miles. After good experiences with Michelin CC2s on our Honda CR-V I’ve just had a set of Agilis Cross Climates fitted to our campervan.

I’ve noticed the wear bars are higher on winter / all season tyres - is this the minimum to maintain the level of grip in snowy conditions rather than a legal change requirement?

Had 4 of these fitted to my Leisuredrive Vivante campervan Dec 25. £464 inclusive of new valves and fitting.

I’ve got Conti All Season Contact 2 (or something catchy like that) on the van. Very comfortable tyre and seem good on our snow covered icy road. Not a match for the last summer tyre on a wet road but no all season is - summer tyres always out brake and out handle AS tyres in wet tests if compared side by side.

Have Hankooks AS tyres on the car and they aren’t as quiet or comfortable as the Conti but are lasting really well and have good levels of grip all round it seems.

Yet to try a Michelin - the competition had caught up when I needed new tyres so these last two purchases are the first time in decades I moved away from Michelin. Now CC3 is becoming more available I’ll likely head back when I need more tyres.

I did have one set of Michelin (Primacy HP?) that cracked fairly quickly but never exposed any cord - cracking isn’t always considered an issue. They lasted until 42k miles on the front (of the golf). Never had noticeable cracks on any other Michelin. The Hankook R82e did but they were between five and seven years old by the time it started.
