AdBlue Discussion and Issues

Sorry me phone keeps changing some of me words should of said lifting up so it’s not hunting up and down on tick over

smell hot anyway as the fans always run after stopped and turned off.
That’s not normal from my experience and is a sure sign that it was mid-regen when turned off. It’s also possible if you’ve been thrashing it (e.g. up an alpine pass, prolonged high speed on motorway at high revs) and stopped and switched off immediately. That certainly shouldn’t be an everyday occurrence.

Tick over should be 800-820ish.

Carista would give you some more info and the app DPF Monitor for VAG works with it for in-depth DPF/Regen info.

It’s always done that from when I got it as dealer said as it’s a bi turbo 204bhp it does that to keep everything ok when turning it off .
So I have never questioned it again with Vw about the fan coming on every time I stop and I don’t drive it hard just drive it like it’s a Sunday drive out slow and steady.

to be fair I would not know what a re gen would sound like and I’ve never smelt a thing which is out the normal as van seams to smell hot anyway as the fans always run after stopped and turned off.
Would vcds be able to check regens.
Fans running when you stop and a hot smell are signs that a DPF Regen was either in progress, or had just completed. The idle speed during regen is around 1000rpm as opposed to the normal ~820rpm. f you don't know about these signs, then your not at fault, its just knowledge that some have picked up.
AdBlue consumption varies dependent upon a lot of factors, with my 150hp T6, it seems to require refilling quite infrequently. I've just had the 1400 mile warning, so will take not of the mileage when I refill.

I dont know if this has been posted before….

Ever since I’ve had the van I’ve noticed a tapered hole in the plastic surround of the filler cap. Always thought it would be good for the fuel cap rather than trying to slot the two notches over the edge at the top.

Discovered what the taper hole is for yesterday - the Ad Blue cap!!

I’d just been putting it on the ground (carefully to keep it clean!)

Hey.

I have a 2022 T6.1 , 150.

I brought the van from VW dealer at 28,000km and it’s now done 53,000km, still no warning light for AD blue. How much does yours do without filling up?

I probably do 70% motorway journeys.

Adblue usage is between 600-1000 miles per litre depending on a number of factors. I hear that some owners get their Adblue deleted, along with the EGR and DPF (all illegal) and from the computer so no Adblue is used. Has your Adblue been deleted?

IIRC You can look up the distance remaining on the instrument panel.
I have only had to top mine up once so far in 15000km.
I followed what it said regarding quantity on the instrument cluster and pumped in the suggested amount from a truck stop bowser. Much cheaper and easier to fill too than buying it in a jerry can.
Remember to turn the ignition on for 30 seconds before starting the engine to allow the recalibration to take place.

6.1s use a lot less of the wee wee juice than the 6. A recent fill up of mine give me an indicated 18,800 estimated range.

The ancient 2020 6.1's have a smaller tank, 6000 mile range, I tend to buy in 5 litre extortionate pouches. Never had the need to put the ignition on for 30 seconds, it registers immediately.

@Sasquatch As Wayne says, I suspect it’s just a larger tank rather than better consumption.
@Drive Wayne. Mine also registers a refill without waiting the 30 seconds before starting (I know because I forget to wait) but it doesn’t stop it giving false MFD warnings 500 miles later!

When they say "leave with ignition on for 30 seconds before starting" it is just to allow plenty of time for the new level to register. Mine registered after a couple of seconds too, so didn't need to wait the full 30 seconds.

I agree, the length of time is to cover all eventualities because with some it appears to cause a problem after not registering so to "just make sure". It clears the manufacturer of being blamed for not giving adequate warning. The same might also be for overfilling I take care but on at least one occasion I think that I may have overfilled slightly by basically being too careful, a bit nervous of the procedure not long into ownership as it was our first ad-blue vehicle and nothing adverse happened.:rolleyes:

The other reason I used Adblu from a truck stop bowser, was the pump meter tells you exactly how much is being dispensed, so you can just pump in what the dash says to put in, and not overfill. (assuming the quantity the dash specifies is not telling porkies). and also not having any left over fluid lying about. It does have a reasonably short shelf life.

That is very handy! I have avoided them because I assumed that they would pump like a fire hose overfill so fast then get covered in horse piss. I would use truck fuel stations but 1, I worry that the restricted small filler on these would not accept the large bore fuel guns that lorries, use and 2, also end up covered in diesel because I imagine our vehicles would not like the huge floe rate.

It would be handy to be able to use truck stops, has anyone tried filling diesel at truck stops am I correct in my assumptions?:oops::giggle:
