Can someone check my math/ lend me their experience

I was about to order 255/55/18 tyres for my new wheels, then read people not happy with them on here... assume et plays a huge part and people only struggle with the inner clearance?
Will they fit seems to think all will be fine, assuming the et51 of the standard 16s I have been using is correct....

help/thoughts welcomed.

I think they'll rub at times, depending on steering input and the terrain you travel over. Your post suggests that you already know that some members have found them to be too big.

If you haven't read this one it's relevant:

I got this size on mine, general grabbers at3 and no issues, I do have a 35mm lift kit fitted though.

I have my winter tyres on size 235/55 r18 on amarok Steel wheels, and I think that is almost the maximum I can have whiteout the tire rubbering something.
The car have - 40mm lowering.
The speed dial shows 1-2km/h to much.

Thanks @T12
Looks very nice
springs only?
Mich cross climates decent and they do in 235/55/18 - think this is where I am heading...

On standard suspension, no spacers, using amarok steels I have run 235/55/18 and 235/60/18 and both sizes are 100% perfect. No rubbing in any situation even towing 2.5t across rutted tracks.20200905_181954.jpg20191018_135330.jpg

What size did you go for in the end? I have fitted 255/55/18 to mine. They do run a very little on one lock side to the left but my left shock is knackered at the front and have new ones but not fitted yet so not sure if that’s why. Possibly going to change tyres again though want the swamper look but without loosing too much economy so not sure what tyre or size would be best. T5 2.5l 174.

I had the mk1 Sportline borbets on my old T5. Tyre size were 235/55/18. Never had any issues and that’s the size that came from the factory.

From every thing I read on 18” wheels the 235/55/18 seems to be the best size all around but tyres are very limited. They don’t do them in the wild peak or in the perreli scorpion at+ which I think from what i have read and looking at the tread pattern seems to be nearest to a road tread but with an off road grip for when needed which is a shame. Only grabber seem to do the 235/55/18 wheels. My 255 have just altered the performance a little too much for my liking and too heavy for reasonable fuel economy. Am wishing I had gone for the thinner tyre.

Vedrestien do 235/55/18 104xl all seasons, of which I have the 17" on mine and they have been a very good all rounder and seem to be lasting well. Over 20k and still look good for another 5/6k.
