Will Coronavirus Close Campsites?

I'm planning to go to Corfe castle in weeks time. No cancellation yet? Just have to wait and see.

We'll be just around the corner at Norden Farm in a few weeks, hoping that doesn't get cancelled too.

Le Mans is now postponed as well, my one chance this year to ditch the family and get some quality beer and barbecue time.

Perhaps we should spare a thought for those running these business. Some campsite owners, particularly some owners of smaller sites, may struggle to make it through this year. There may be help from the government, but no-one knows how long this situation is going to last or ultimately cost, financially or otherwise.

Hopefully I’m wrong, but I fear the worst for some of these businesses. It puts into perspective the disappointment of not being able to get away for a weekend.

I’m thinking of buying a caravan but might also be a bad time given sites may start to close

Caravans are getting snapped up at the moment. One of my customers advertised one we Restored and it sold for over the asking price in less than an hour of advertising. He said he could of sold it 5 times over with the amount of interest he got.
My business started in the last recession and it absolutely flourished because people decided not to go on lavish holidays, but buy a Caravan and stay in this country.

Agree, that's the frustrating thing, I/we want to put money in their pockets but may not be able to.

CAMC are saying sites open and all advised strategies are being adhered too.
Fine balance but with sensible practices I think support needed for some of these small sites

that’s interesting to hear, we are going to buy a caravan this spring and I was hoping there might be some good deals to be had at the moment... perhaps not?

we are going to use a small CL site..... the owner was delighted and emphasized the precautions they had gone too.
just means that the 5 O'clock cheers will be across the campsite not getting too close.
:uh run:

Its probably more to do with cleaning the washrooms and the washing up areas. Those don't really go too deep with it will just close and be done. Those with an already strict and proud cleaning regime will carry on, I should think. All power to them too.

Our holiday is canceled ,we were goint to Galmtpton site in Devon for easter.
This is now closed due to the virus, just have to work (if we can)??

The joys of being self employed:(

Hi, For your info.

We Cut and Ran from Estepona on Wednesday evening. Have a bad feeling about staying longer with our Brittany ferry crossing being cancelled for early April with no sailings until mid April and the Lockdown.

Down loaded the Form from the French Embassy and Drove 11 hours to get across the border into France just in case of long delays. Then 12 hours yesterday to make the Cannel Tunnel crossing home 11.45 last night.

Booked the Tunnel on Wednesday morning for a Friday crossing.

Called the Eurotunnel yesterday as we were making good time ( very helpful ) for the 9.50 crossing last night. Only about 20 cars on the whole Train. Now it seems they are sold out until April 20th.

Our friends who stay told us campsites in Spain were " told to close from Tuesday next week". The first crossing they could get was Monday 23rd.

Noticed as drove up north of La Rochelle the Aires are closed, coned off and a lot of police on the roads.

Fuel stations open but pay before you fill up. Some had toilettes open but others had closed theirs. Thank god for the Thetford in the T6.

Ferries from Calais were still sailing.

Good luck to anyone travelling back from Europe.

We are lucky having good friends in England checking the internet and updating us every couple of hours.

Sound like you had fun Merrick. Bet you are just glad to be back on UK soil.

Sorry to hear that, found someone had keyed my car yesterday.

Scum!

sounds like you have had quite a trek over the last few days! I love a rod trip through Europe but that sounds like 100% stress all the way. Welcome back to the UK! A few things have changed since you left... ;)

The C&C club have announced some site are not opening on their advertised opening day
and ALL sites have no facilities open
Did not mention if chemical disposal point it closed as well

Wild camping it is then. Although park4night had tried to distance itself from anyone going too the parking sites they list!

Whilst at the current time we remain open, you will notice some changes when you arrive:

  • All campsites are running at a maximum of 50% occupancy, with more space to promote easier social distancing between pitches
  • Meets, gatherings and socialising in groups outside your travel party are not permitted
  • All on-site social and communal areas will be closed
  • All facilities blocks are closed, this includes toilets and showers
  • A number of our Club sites will remain shut at the start of the season
