Retrofitting powered Tailgate

Audi A3 8V, from memory they never had powered tailgate from factory, does the PDC need to communicate over CAN to the tailgate module to stop it from opening? If it's just a power thing and the simple function of the PDC being active and triggered by an object is enough then it may work with either module...
PDC over CAN was the way I'd assume it would work. There is a tick box in VCDS on the Audi module for 'electric tailgate present'. If I get chance tonight I'll try some different coding.

Above is a HW number, surely your SW number is 1K8919472C.
It's also the SW part number for Audi A3 8V but you're right, the SW part number may be different on this one, a VCDS scan would be good to see.

Same SW as a Sharan which does have powered tailgate as an option.... Oooooo the plot thickens!

Just bought this t6 tailgate to convert a t5.1. Can’t find a part number on it. Can anyone confirm if i need to do the mod to clear the electric rams or not? Thanks IMG_6348.jpegIMG_6347.jpegIMG_6346.jpeg

The OEM bracket is huge and would require a substantial amount of material removing from the tailgate otherwise it would not close. Replacing the OEM bracket with a custom home made one means the power ram is held closer to the body of the van so you only need to make a small modification to the tailgate.
Hi. I also have some orig brackets from T6, seem not so huge but require some extra space from the body.

Will they fit for T5GP? not sure last 2 photos is the same

Long time no visit for me...work and life always seems to get in the way of van tinkering!
I started this retrofit probably two years ago on my T5.1 (T5GP), all the wiring is now present and the module fitted, I just didn't get the brackets made and only had one actuator at the time. Fortunately I've now got two actuators!

A friend who is a bit more handy than me owes me a favour, and has started fabricating the brackets, however, he has asked me to find the measurements indicated in red....

Having looked at the van itself, it doesn't look like the measurements are particularly critical for the two mountings - it looks like you need to drill them out in the van yourself anyway. It looks like the existing hole for the stud can't be reused for mounting the bracket. Can anyone confirm this please? :D

For those who have drilled their own holes for the bracket, can you actually get to the back for a nut? Or is a rivnut or similar a sufficient enough fixing for it?

The mointing points might be different on t5, I don't know. Maybe others can answer that.
Regarding the measurements on the bracket, I could check this at the end of next week.
Please do post your experience as you go along. Hopefully @strong-max can share as well

Below is LHS bracket that worked for me, obviously RHS is a mirrored version.

This option is for people who are not going to switch to 7E5 tailgate and want to keep their existing 7E0 tailgate and are willing to also implement modification to the tailgate itself.
Tried to fit the bracket from this drawing, and the door didn't close up to the end (sad)
2-3mm lack from tailgate to rams on my T5.1 car

Seems that 4mm bracket is extra fat. I suppose 2,5mm metall instead of 4mm will be fine. And bend nearly 5-6° instead of 14° or no bend at all.

Or maybe a little mod of tailgate's body itself required? @Robert @Deaky please advise

Thx

The photos below show electric rams mounted on a custom made bottom brackets on a T5(2010-2015) --> AKA T5.1 or T5.2 .

By those photos I suggest that:
1. The bracket is thinner. Metall must be 2,5mm (maximum 3mm)
2. The bracket is straight, with no bend.
3. The ball stud itself is soldered to the bracket with no nut in the middle.
4. Width in the bottom side must be 4mm less (see red mark on my photo)

Beware not putting a small bend in the bracket. One of my rams popped off the ball and smashed my tail light.

That's the best outcome. I have had both pop off and I can only imagine what would happen if my kid was under it. Up to this day, I have not fully completed this project due to my fears about my children :-(

And to be clear, electric tailgate retrofit can also be implemented on T5(2010-2015) with original T5 tailgate.
Home made bottom brackets are required instead of (7E5827436B, 7E5827435B) and there is absolutely no need for any modification to the T5 tailgate itself.
Unfortunately no success with t5gp tailgate 7E0827025F
Not enough space even with no custom brackets - when rear door closed the ram is jammed and there's no gap for it able to move. I've prepared bottom brackets of 3mm metall, and tailgate not closes with them at all - lack about 3-4mm., electric ram hits tailgate boundary.

Seems that tailgate itself needs to be modded slightly too. Or some additional secret with upper mounting points. Hope you know how this mystery was made
