Red Cables Under Passenger Seat [Merge]

Whats This, who put it there and can i hook a split charger up to it?
IMG_0458.jpegIMG_0459.jpegIMG_0460.jpeg

I ve been cleaning under the passenger seat and i found this, It looks like a taped up power lead maybe? ( there is one thick red and one thin red )
would the 40 amp fuse accompanying it be the fuse for the red cable?
i have checked the battery end and it all looks very standard vw cabling from new ( cant see anything after market or additional ) However i assume vw didnt put it in and just leave it just taped up liked that?

can any one help and or advise and if i can power a split charger with it,? please tell me i can as that will save me a head ache,

There was another tapes up seperate black cable also but no idea on that one as i cant be sure of the actual cable colour

thanks for any help in advance. ( p.s my electrical knowledge is minimal but trying to learn )

The 40a fuse is for your electric sliding door. I think the thick red wires go back to the ebox under the starter battery. You can use them for a DC-DC charger but you may have to add a fuse in the ebox

`Thank you for your reply, i dont actually have an electric door? that i know of? could the place i bought it from easily have removed it? or what else could it be for?

In regards to the thick red and thin small red wire could i just not add an inline fuse there at the end before adding it to the Split charger?

thanks for your help.

Anyone know the amp rating for the factory installed power cable underneath the passenger seat on a T6 Caravelle? The cable is not connected under the seat (it’s taped off) but I can’t find any markings for the gauge of the cable. It looks to be 10mm but that’s a guess. Cheers, Nick

It’s is 10mm but the fuse size can vary, it will either be a 50a or 100a in the e-box under the battery

Ok thanks, think I’ll need to run a new cable as just noticed the Victron specification for the 30 AMP DC-DC charger recommends 16mm.

Although up to 2 meters 10mm can be used, since the cable is routed just below the battery - through engine bulkhead to the passenger seat it’s probably not far off 2m

Can any one tell me if if the 40 amp fuse near the live wires is for that live wire? as shown in the picture above? can i just replace the 40 amp fuse with the 100amp fuse in that? or do i need to get to the ebox? thanks

Im not sure what this is for but can i connect my dc dc charger to it?

i found it under my passenger seat, it doesnt look like vw left it it like that but i could be wrong, i have no idea what its for, it has a 40 amp fuse and what appears a thick red wire spliced to a thing red wire, can i attach or run my dc dc charger from this thicker red wire? I've checked the terminal and it has a permanent 12v when the ignition is off so im assuming its connected directly to the battery?

or do i need to run a feed direct from the battery for my dc dc charger?

You can connect it to the thick red cable with an appropriate fuse but you can’t connect it to the 40a fuse.

my 2016 shuttle had these. I used them when fitted the towbar but couldnt figure out what they were for as i did not have towbar or aux battery prep.

I couldn't help it, you've made me go outside and look :p .. My 6.1 has a load of extra taped up wires under there.
Van has passenger heated seats & tow-bar prep installed.

You can connect it to the thick red cable with an appropriate fuse but you can’t connect it to the 40a fuse.
now that is good news, every job I've done so far is as difficult as possible so that will save mea a big head ache as i have no idea what im doing lo do you have any idea what it would have been originally there for? i feel like something has been removed from the van but i have no idea what... thanks for your help/

Hi this is probably been answered before
But I’m installing a leisure battery with a ctek charger and have ran my battery wire to the passenger seat upon doing this I’ve noticed there looks like a battery wire there taped up with a red and blue striped wire plus a 20amp fuse is the red and blue a ingestion wire
The CTEK is asking for a ignition wire
Cheers

Have a quick look at the "adding 12v section"

Hello,
under the left seat there is power directly from the power rail, in E-box (fuse SA3 - 60, 80 or 100 Amps, depending on the equipment), in my Caravelle there is power to the additional 12v socket on the left C pillar, it could be a sliding door power supply , in some variants (army, police, etc.) it is a power supply for additional specialist equipment. This thin red additional cable, it can be a water pump power supply from webasto, I did it, converting the webasto auxiliary heater into a parking heater.

Hi, I wired up my CTEK charger in my T6 Euro 6 today, I connected the CTEK to the main battery using the red live cables under the dual passenger seat (there were two small cables and a 10mm2 cable spliced together, I used the main 10mm2 cable) everything is working fine and the leisure battery is charging from the CTEK however I wondered if I should be swapping the fuse in the E Box for a 30A one, I believe mine is the 50A fuse at position 8 (according to the previous VW diagram). I have fused between the CTEK and my leisure battery with a 30A fuse and have used 10mm2 cable throughout so the rating of this is higher than the E Box fuse.

Thanks for any advice, a pic of my E Box below.

Cheers
