Dc to dc charger t6.1 passenger seat cables

Hello, i am reading numerous threads regards connecting a leisure battery under the passenger seat. Now i got the live feed coming from factory and i would like to take the main cable and connect to the victron orion tr smart 30a charger.

I read on the threads saying i should take power from the thick red wire. Should i splice the thick red wire ? I cant find any good photos that makes senseimage.webp

I used the splice block to tap into the factory red live. I then ran the live through the Anl fuse into my dc to dc charger. I used 10 awg silicone tinned copper wire. Works beautifuly. The Anl fuse holder comes with a 30amp fuse. All sourced from amazon.

thanks for the reply! Would it work to go directly to the dc charger? From what i read there is already a 50a fuse on the live feed

I'm sure there's and auto electrician or two on here that can provide a well trained bit of advice to confirm. I ran the newly spliced live through a 30amp Anl fuse to protect the dc to dc charger from damage from the starter battery/smart alternator. I'm not sure a 50amp fuse would offer the same protection to the charger you're wiring into as it'll take a higher voltage to pop the 50amp. The renogy instructions included an inline Anl fuse from the van live feed so thats how I wired it. If nothing else it gives belt and braces protection for 20 mins work at minimal expense.

I ran the cable directly but i will upgrade with a 30A fuse once i get it in the mailbox

I am struggling to figure out what settings i should have for the orion t smart

I’m running a 175ah LiFepo4 battery (imp-rv12v175ah)

Been driving the car for a bit and i see it charges and then stops due to shutdown detected.

These are my current settings

Is this correct? For me it looks like the voltage should be a bit higher

Unfortunately I'm only familiar with the Renogy charger I have so can't help you with Orion one you have re it's settings. Mine just works on dip switches so fairly straightforward. If you pay a few pounds to join as a vip member there are loads of detailed posts for everything transporter wise so may be worth the investment. It is only a few pounds and worth every penny.

I am looking at doing this as well, but worry that the OEM wire under the seat is not thick enough - most places online (including the Victron manual) state 16mm2 minimum, which i dont think that wire is?

I am not an expert, but i want to make sure that using that wire is safe as the input - going to be using a Victron XS 50A DCDC

The larger of the OEM cables is actually 25mm2.
You can measure it: The inner diameter of the conductor will be about 5.7mm, overall cable thickness is dependant on insulation.
I just checked mine as it’s conveniently in bits and didn’t want to give a wrong answer: I’ve got a 25mm2 crimp lug fitted.
Hope that helps.

Edit: My 25mm2 cable that I used for my DC-DC originated from the OEM split charge relay and not this wiring bundle. Having gone back and checked the largest cable in this bundle is 10mm2, which I've made use of, but not for my DC-DC.

Just been out, so I have this one highlighted... It still doesn't seem that thick? It's maybe 6mm wide?

If yours is only 6mm diameter (assuming you are measuring the insulation) that’s likely only a 10mm2 cable.
A 25mm2 cable will have an outer diameter (including insulation) of around 10mm.

Nah that was just a rough measure of the overall entire width, not diameter

Width is the same as diameter.
Mine did originally have a factory leisure battery with split charger installed, so maybe my cable feed was larger.
Go by measurement to confirm what you actually have.

Ah yes, sorry of course it is. Yeah its weird, though there seems to be alot of people on here that have that cable and have used it for a DC-DC charger. I just don't trust that size for up to 50A i dont think.

I'm fairly certain on my Orion B2B I have shutdown detection set to 12.8v on my T6.1 - not certain of it's correct but works for me.

I've looked again, the largest cable in that bundle is 10mm2. My 25mm2 cable that I used for my DC-DC originated from the OEM split charge relay and not this bundle, which I also had.

Ah that makes sense, thanks for looking again mate. I will just buy a new 16mm2 cable reel and run it from the battery. Do most people connect straight to the battery, or make use of the spare / unused 100A fuse locations next to the battery?
