I'm not sure it's the flaps that are causing that issue. It looks like either it wasn't clipped in correctly if someone's removed it, or as you air out, it's sat on the tyre and popped out the liner.
Saw an old post for mud flaps basically slagging off the Genuine VW ones for requiring rear bumper drilling. Has anyone found some alternatives that work on tailgates as some only fit barn door.
If you get the factory fit ones, although you have to remove drill the bumper to make them fit, they look so much nicer han the aftermarket VW ones - Which have big ugly brackets on them
You can adapt universal ones to fit by making up brackets. I used a pack of 90 degree angle brackets from Aldi. Select the ones you need, hammer them flat if need be and spray with a suitable black coating. Means you can fit them in the proper place to be effective and also set the length. I found some specific moulded ones on ebay but they came up short to be of use.
