GUIDE MFSW Steering Wheel Upgrade

Setting the standard for write-ups there, @Tanstaff. 🫡

Hello there people ,
I’m thinking of changing the stock steering wheel on my t6 t32 with no controls whatsoever .
I would like to add cruise control as-well as steering wheel controls. Is it possible to do a straight swap for another transporter steering wheel and have the controls coded ?
Does anyone know of any alternative wheels by any chance something like a polo golf or beetle that will work and potentially be a more affordable option ?

I`ve fitted my wheel now to my startline but not used a wheel with cc on the steering wheel as I`ve got it on the stalk. Only problem I`ve got is when I switch Byte 29 bit 6 on, the controls work on the wheel, radio and MFD, but the cc, stop start and radar dont work. If I switch byte 29 bit 6 off, the cc, stop start and radar work, but the radio and MFD buttons stop working on the steering wheel. Any ideas? This is my wheel.IMG_0938.webp

STEP 9 - CODING

Get someone to code the MFSW in

Byte 17, Bit 2 means Cruise control on MFSW, "Geschwindigkeitsregelanlage (GRA) über Multifunktionslenkrad (MFL) verbaut" (see [Guide] How To Retrofit MFSW And Cruise Control To T6 Eu6 2019 Startline - Also Hacking DSG Paddles For CCS)

Maybe that's why my "mute" button doesn't work (all other buttons works).

I have original T6 steering wheel w/o cruise control, I have changed stalks to have them w/o MFD control and airbag loom (version without cruise control) and added cable for PIN10 (BCM 36), PIN9 (black on lightswitch). I was using VW T6 multifunction steering wheel MuFu cable set - Wibutec KFZ-Nachr, 79,00 €, version w/o cruise control because my T6 is 2016 and there is written: "The retrofitting of the original cruise control system via multifunction steering wheel is only suitable for vehicles from model year 2017 with Euro 6 emissions standard"

Hi. Just wondering if you managed to resolve this as would like to do the same on my van. Is this a Polo wheel? I saw a similar wheel for sale recently that was flat bottomed but had the two airbag prongs which isn’t a combo I’d seen before. Tks

Yes. It was the bcm wire needed to be in a different pin. I`m at work now but I made a note on my laptop at home. I`ll check it later and post it on here.

Awesome! Thanks. One more question. Is that with the Polo wheel, or the Passat wheel that appears to share the same airbag as the transporter?

Your standard steering wheel airbag looks the same but will not fit on to a Mfsw, not a polo or a t6 one, you have to get the standard t6 wheel with buttons and matching bag and matching loom, or a polo one with matching bag and loom ( with buttons) so basically your airbag and loom will never work or fit with any Mfsw 👍

I`ve checked my laptop and I took the wire I added to pin 36 in the BCM to pin 17 instead and then switched off 29 byte 6 in Vcds. Just to let you know all the vw steering wheels physically fit on all models. The difference is how the airbag is mounted. If you`re using your existing airbag, you need the one with the 2 hooks, Golf, Amarok,Passat etc. Polo wheels have the 3 round spring types. If you want cc on mfsw it MUST have CNL button on it. I`m happy with my existing cc on the stalk so went for the basic radio buttons on the left and mfd buttons on the right. If you already have existing cc you dont need to run the wire into the connection under the battery box, just 1 to the bcm and one to the light switch. I struggled to work mine out as all the guides are for fitting mfsw with cc on the wheel and no existing cc. I worked out the existing wire in pin 36 on my bcm is probly the factory cc link to the connection under the battery. Hope all this makes sense. I got all my buttons and wiring looms from Ali Express.

Mate you are a legend. Yes I’m looking to keep the cc on the stalks as you’ve done but was struggling for a specific guide so you’ve made this a lot more straightforward. Had spotted the buttons on AliExpress so worst case I’ll get some of those if the Passat buttons don’t work. Do you happen to know the code of the buttons that you bought? The Polo 6R ones seem to be 2G0959442K?

This is not the case.
The airbag on the plastic startline steering wheel will fit and work fine on a MFSW. You will however require the correct loom.
ALL VW steering wheels with the 2 prongs either side will fit also the T6.
Polo golf Passat etc.
EURO6 T6’s will require T6 buttons to work correctly and light up red.
EURO5 T6’s require polo buttons to work properly.
I currently have a custom rebuilt flat bottomed polo steering wheel with my startline airbag and T6 MFSW’s buttons working perfectly on my startline.
I also fitted the extra wire into the ebox and activated cruise control on my startline which didn’t have cruise control.
It’s getting the T6 buttons that’s the hassle. They aren’t cheap

Is your T6 EURO6 or EURO5 ?
As they require different buttons to work cruise control correctly. See my post above.
Might be ok if ccs is on a stalk though
