T6.1 DSG - Retrofitting steering wheel with paddles

Hello,

Since searching on the forum and reading through some of the posts, I thought I had found the solution.

After heading down to my unit last night to retrofit the steering wheel with paddles from a part number found on a post where someone had retrofitted it into their van, I hit a problem soon as I took the airbag out and tried this into the new wheel I bought.

The above is the post to which I had bought a steering wheel with the exact part number.

My van being a T6.1 20 plate DSG with ACC, the steering wheel airbag connector for the MFSW had 5 pins but the new steering wheel had 6 pin.

Has anyone come across this and is the difference being with the year of van?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, I had that exact same problem. Mine is a 2020 too. I think they changed it when they changed the airbag to the new style logo. Managed to find a helpful chap on here who had the same problem but the other way so swapped button packs.
You can't just repin to a different connector as the crimps are different, but believe you can just buy another airbag loom with the correct connector on it.
There are loads on ebay that look right, but hard to know 100%. Someone on here did get a new loom and fitted that, but have to search for the thread. I'll have a look too.

Thanks for the reply, yes, I have found that out since. Although struggling to find the correct airbag loom cabling.

If anyone has the part number for the 6pin plug for the mfsw and dsg paddles, that would be greatly appreciated.

I think you just need to find one for the airbag and the 6 pin connector as the paddles themselves connect to the mfsw button pack.

Updating this post with the solution if anyone else if looking for it.

I bought another steering wheel with the airbag wiring needed for the DSG paddles, now that I also got the part number, I bought another airbag wiring loom to make another complete steering wheel for someone to retrofit. This will be for the 2020-2021 T6.1s with the previous steering wheel airbag.

The steering wheel part number you need is indeed the one on the first post - 2G0 419 089 D VDH

The airbag wiring loom part number is you is - 5G0 971 584 AC

Hopefully this helps anyone in the future, if anyone is interested in the steering wheel and loom to retrofit. I am in the North east but can also post if needed.

Hi Bobby! Glad I came across your post. I’m in the exact situation. So with the 5G0 971 584 AC loom I can go from a 5 pins steering wheel to 6 pins?

Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱

2G0 419 089 D VDH
