Hi everyone ! Does anyone happen to know the OEM code for this part. The grommet which houses the wiring harness or loom if you like from the van into the tailgate? I think its printed on the side of the grommet if anyone has one and wouldnt mind checking :)

@Fish may know as he added a second one to his tailgate.

Byte 01 Bit 5 Central Locking/Rear Lid: Contact controlled on detent
Byte 01 Bit 7 Central Locking/Rear Lid: Rear Lid Locking/Unlocking via Central Locking
Byte 07 Bit 5 Central Locking/Rear Lid: One-Motor-Lock installed
Hello. Really great how to tailgate info thanks I have nearly finished mine thanks to this guide but I am just struggling with the coding to get the rear handle to work I have ran the wires from BCM and everything connected along with the earth, can anyone help me please?
I don’t seem to have Byte 01 bit 5 and Byte 07 bit 5. See screen shots. I am new to VCDS so maybe I am missing something thank you in advance, regards Mick.

Just to add. I wired my release handle to the interior light so when unlocked and light is on the handle works. Saves running cables to the front and coding.

I'm not sure, but try Lcode2 and see if you can see it. Otherwise I'll scan my van and you can type in the value.

Ok thanks for replying. I think I may have looked there but I’ll have another look today with fresh eyes. I’ll let you know how I get on. If I get no joy then the values would be great thanks a lot

@Littleblackflash
Hi mate. I’ve not had any luck I’m afraid.
I can see them in the Lcode2 and they are selected but I cannot seem to update them.
I've attached a shot of what I can see.

Hi mate thank you for the values, I entered them and saved them unfortunately it did not make a difference :-( I have put them back to the originals now. Do you or anyone have another ideas please?

@Littleblackflash

Hi mate success I’ve sorted it! :-D I found an old topic that you had commented on that helped
BCM Connector pins and numbering system.
My new code is on the photo attached below this may help someone who is switching from barn doors to tailgate.
(Sorry photo quality isn’t great but it’s usable)DB9B0335-E606-43C2-AB6F-7CFB3471351E.jpegDB9B0335-E606-43C2-AB6F-7CFB3471351E.jpeg

Hi guys, seriously tempted by this mod and I’m about to press ‘go’ on a tailgate kit.

unfortunately I do not have much spare time and wondered how long from start to finish the van could be considered deliverable, albeit not necessarily finished in respect of the door wiring?

my partner only has use of the van so we’d need to work around this little sticking point!

Thanks Mickm, is it a case of simply replacing the current coding with the new coding?
I seem to be having the same problem you've had.
I've taken mine to a local garage to complete the coding for my Tailgate handle to work but was told I need a new BCM as the one I've got doesn't have the options for tailgate locking?
If we change the coding to the one you have, will these options become available?
Sorry to ask but VCDS is way beyond me and I can't take the van anywhere else yet due to Covid!!
Thanks in advance...

The physical removal of the barndoors and replacing with the tailgate can be done in a day as long as you have all the bits and someone to help you lift and hold the tailgate in place whilst you bolt it on. Mine was a tailgate kit including lights and bumper. I didn't bother changing the bumper as the barndoor bumper fits and mine had no scratches on it, whereas the one that came with the kit did have a few minor marks on it. The wiring of the lights is a bit time consuming as it can be trial and error, my lights were off a European California so slightly different wiring than some of the others mentioned on here.

The wiring of the handle is where it gets a bit tricky, see my previous post.
I've run the 2 cables to the BCM just need to get it coded, but this is quite a specialist task...

As above. The mechanical swap takes a couple of hours but needs 2 people to lift the tailgate and attach the nuts. It takes a little longer if you have a tow bar and you'll need to remove this to reposition the lock.

Wiring isn't difficult but the coding took me a while to get right. The more people make the swap, the more info we have on the coding. You shouldn't ever need a new BCM, but you need someone with VCDS.

To add...I managed to do the lock catch plate without removing tow bar. I knocked the captive plates off with a drift and then fished it with a bent magnet pickup tool into position and the got a bolt in. To be honest I didn’t this this would work but only took 20 mins! It was a bit fiddly...this may save you some time

Hi there. Sorry to hear you are struggling. The thread info should help your garage sort it. I wouldn’t say just copying my coding would work and wouldn’t recommend it if they are not sure what they are doing properly.
I think, if I was in your position, I’d be giving @Eddcameron who runs VolksFit a shout and maybe get them to do it for you to be safe? They come highly recommended on the forum and are mentioned earlier in this thread.
They may not be local to you but could be worth a trip and get it sorted properly once and for all?
hope you get sorted soon!

Ok thanks for the replies, that was my original plan but with the travel restrictions in place in Wales I haven’t been able to do that. Might have to look into the courtesy light option mentioned above for the short term, then head to Volksfit when things return to somewhere near normal.

Ok no worries yes the courtesy light option is a good stop gap, sounds like a plan

Threshold trim cover 7H0863485C

Tailgate bumper 7E5807417C

Reflectors 7E0945105E & 106E

PDC mounts - the tailgate ones supplied did not fit with my PDC sensors (sensor part 1S0929275C) as they appeared too large, meaning the sensor would simply fall out.

The barn door bumper mounts are parts

7E5919491, 7E5919491A, 7E5919491B, 7E5919491C.

The tailgate mounts are

7E5919491D, 7E5919491E, 7E5919491F, 7E5919491G.

I returned the tailgate mounts and bought two lots of the two centre barn door mounts - 7E5919491A & B.

If your PDC sensors are different then I’d suggest having a look at EKTA.

(The reason the sensors are different is due to a slight crease/curve in the bumper. More-so, the mounts on the barn door bumper are rounded at one one corner, making them unique. As far as I could see, the two centre mounts are identical so if it boils down to utilising second hand parts, try the two centre mounts on the outside)

Tailgate wiring connector plugs - if you don’t want to splice your wiring, you can use the mating plugs and around one metre of cable per pin to and make up a short loom:

4F0972575 to mate with tailgate loom plug (which is male 4F0972483)

Pins (male crimps) x14 000979035E

6Q0972777 to mate with van plug (which is female 6Q0972778)

Pins (female crimps) x14 000979131E

The plugs themselves have a built-in locking mechanism so the pins don’t pull out when pressure is applied to the loom - this lock just needs sliding out something like 5mm to release the pins.

The heated rear screen pins are larger but, as I never used them, do not know the part number. I bought these from eBay seller ‘mshugaev-2008’ who was really helpful and provided me with the part numbers after I gave him the plug part-numbers.

A cable will still need running back to the BCM - VolksFit installed this and coded the BCM to accept the tailgate.

Some other bolts that I appear to have used somewhere as I have empty bags and no bolts leftover..

x2 N10451405 bolt

x2 N90479203 nut

x2 N10741402 bolt

x4 N90962401 bolt

I’ve probably missed off some parts here, so make sure you spend a large portion of your life looking at part sites with those exploded diagrams once you have ordered all of your bits.

A good site is nemigaparts.com.
Hiya , I have just seen your post while looking for information regarding tailgate conversions, the info on it is very handy, cheers, do you happen to know if a 2015 t5.1 tailgate would fit onto a 2017 t6, I have asked around and nobody seems quite sure.
many thanks
John.

Morning John,
Mechanically I think the T5.1 tailgate will fit, but I’m not sure on the wiring side of it.
I can’t think of anyone who’s transplanted a T5.1 tailgate to a T6 so can’t say whether it’s doable or not. Hopefully someone else here may be a little wiser.

Where have you been looking for a tailgate? Kernow Transporters,
North West Transporter Parts,
and
T5 Cotswold Parts
spring to mind.

PS how is the van driving now that you’ve changed out the VanSlams for original suspension?
