2019 T6 - Warning flagged 600 miles left.. fill with 2.75 gallons min, 3 gallons max.

Put 13 litres in, ignition on for 30 seconds, then turn over.. MFD updated.. 6000 miles left.

After all the horror stories about this I did my 6.1 last week for the first time.

It said put 10.5 Litres max, I bought 2 x 5L containers, put most of it in before it was brimmed (Right to the fookin top!!!) I couldn't actually get 10L in!
I was super cautious as people were advising not to overfill it and I thought I has messed it up. So I switched the van on, waited... started it... went for a drive... done, all sorted.... what was I worried about!

Others have reported it sorting itself out whilst driving.
some have had software updates at the dealership.
what range do you have?
1200 miles - I’ve got to drive 60 miles today - if that doesn’t do it I guess dealer - boring, over complicated engineering

It’s easy and fine when it works - it’s just it doesn’t actually work as it should for a significant number of us. You’re in the lucky majority

You are not alone - I tried to top up my T6 last week when it flashed up, I carefully measured out less than was required and it it overflowed also! Thankfully updated on the dash fine, but left me perplexed as to what had gone wrong.

Makes you wonder why we couldn’t have had a gauge with a needle rather than all this computer digital readout nonsense doesn’t it

A final update and my conclusions.

The 60 mile drive didn’t solve the problem. So I thought, sod it, I’m just going to keep filling it up. 10 litres later (bearing in mind my display had told me to put a maximum of 1.5g in = circa 6.8 litres) it’s still not full and certainly didn’t overflow. However it has reset to a range of 5500 miles after another short drive (about 2 miles) because the ‘waiting at least 30 seconds with just the ignition on’ instruction still didn’t work.

So my conclusions - I was told to put 6.8l in and it took 10. Other guys on here were told to put amounts in that wouldn’t fit and caused an overflow. I can only conclude, therefore, that the readout as to how much to put in is absolute Bobbins and should be ignored. Have 10l on hand and carefully fill using your eyes and ears to tell when you’re getting full to avoid overfill. And don’t waste your time sitting there with just the ignition on cos that’s rubbish too - go for a drive.

Cheers to all the contributors

I filled mine today. Dash said 1.75-2gal but since I had 10L I thought I’d just cram it all in. Didn’t quite get it all in before it was full, perhaps 1/2L left in drum. Switched ignition on and it had reset as it should back to 6500mls

Hi all
I have a 17 150 t6, 650 miles ago I topped up with adblue as directed on my dash display, yesterday I drove my t6 and I had 5500 miles adblue range.
Unfortunately suddenly the Amber adblue warning beeped and the display said 600 miles till no start.
I topped up with adblue, knowing that I should have plenty, I managed to get 4 litres in the tank, leaving a little room so's not to over fill.
I turned ignition on for 30 seconds to reset the adblue but it doesn't reset and and continues to say 600 miles till no engine start, at no time while all this was going on did the display recommend how much adblue to put in.
When I topped it up the first time that I already stated the display advised me on min and max to enter, I'm lost, any ideas or help would great or do I just need to take it to a vw main agent.
Thankyou in advance

Seems that engine software needs to be updated.

Did you get anywhere with this? I have exactly the same problem and and now down to 350 miles before engine won’t start.

Sorry to post another adblue post, nothing I looked at really matched my question.

We’ve topped up adblue as stated and still says 500 miles left to drive the van. It’s a converted campervan (2020 T6.1) and our only car. VW service centre say they can’t see us until 15th December, so I basically have to drive it until it breaks down then get it recovered to VW if that’s before 15th Dec. The van doesn’t have VW assist.

The warning says put in 0.75gallons so I assume I can’t give it another go as been told have to put in at least 4 litres to register.

What are the chances of me finding a local garage that can see this? Short of ringing them all round, any tips for the kind of garage that might be able to fix this?

Thank you in advance for any help

All vans get VW CV assist for the warranty period.

That's 3years.

So you will be covered to 2023.

Call them up.

Thanks, turns out you’re right. I was told it didn’t when I bought the van (2nd hand) and the service centre seemed happy it was possible I didn’t have VW assist if it had been bought from a discounter.

Thanks.

Would still like to know if it’s possible a local garage could deal with an ad blue issue? My service centre is an hour away and won’t see us until December if VW assist can’t fix it.

Have you driven the van since topping it up, it can take sometime to register the new amount. Did you wait the 30 seconds with the ignition on before starting it?

After topping up, turn the ignition, don't start the engine. Leave 30seconds and it'll register it's been done.

Thank you.

I did read the manual first and do it as per the manual. I did also search the forum first but really wanted to know about how to find a local garage. Never had a van before and with it appearing to be a bit more of a specialist issue just thought there might be a trick to save ringing lots.

Thanks again, sorry for annoying with the post.

I think you will need vw rather than a local garage .
I've had this issue previously , assist sent out an AA van who couldn't diagnose / fix - had to go to a vw garage , but a quick fix for them .
Hope you get sorted
