What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Just popped into VW Commercials and had them do a Health Check (free). Came back saying that the disks were 10% worn, so 90% remaining. This after 50k miles must be too good to be true. Asked them to confirm only 10% used - they said yes. Feeling very doubtful - any comments?

Were they referring to pads or disks?

My van - a T32 heavy camper - is on 15k miles (predominantly motorway miles) and at last month's service I was informed pads were 10% worn. No mention of disk wear.

Put a micrometer across them if you're in any doubt, the only way to reljably assess the wesr %age. Indeed, I doubt the dealer did when they inspected them.

Finally fitted an XT60 connector to the MPPT wires hanging off my Renogy DCDC charger. Now I can plug my Ecoflow 160w flexible panel into the leisure batteries or my River 2 using the same cable. Very pleased it was so easy.

Boring job, but the edge of the pop top deflector has always been just rough cut plastic which never looked pretty.
So today I had the black silicon out doing something else and remembered this little job.

Fitted replacement lower splitter to bumper (nowhere near as difficult as it initially seemed with a bit of a push and taking out the old screws first 🙄).

Set tyre pressures to deal with dash warning then realised I’d misread the tyre codes on the door pillars and had gone waaaay over for my 18”.

Reset tyre pressures.

Ferry tomorrow morning to France for a couple of weeks with the boy. Looking forwards to removing new lower splitter on the way onto or off the boatIMG_3752.webpIMG_3753.webp

(Internal shot not strictly today’s work, but bumper effectively marks the end of phase one of converting from mid-bulkhead builder’s van).

Not today but recently; wanted to test it for a week (and drive to Snowdon and back) before commenting…

Finally have the TTE450 hybrid turbo fitted, along with custom down pipe, milltek 200 cell sports cat, and Racingline software. Also went from milltek exhaust to standard by having OEM centre and rear silencers fitted to keep things a bit more OEM+ on the noise front.

I haven’t had a LOBA high pressure fuel pump fitted as I haven’t been able to source one. I got the wrong item posted to me twice and then told of a long wait for it. I’m told it’s a recommended rather than required upgrade. Will likely do this when stock is available.

I haven’t had it dyno’d yet but I’m using the same parts as another example apart from Forge rather than Wagner IC. That one is tested at ~420bhp.

I need to take it back to BMVS to have the TVS stage 2 map removed from the DSG as although it works with the added power, the gear changes just seem to be in the wrong place now. Power has moved to around 3000rpm and it’s much more usable when driving using paddles in manual. Once removed, I can get the Racingline DSG map to match the new ECU map that’s been applied.

It’s a lot of fun. Traction can be a bit of an issue but not as bad as I thought it might be. ESC hasn’t triggered much in the very dry driving I’ve been doing this last week. Wet road is likely different based on a test drive I did in the other van.

So a few small things still to finish off, but overall it’s what I hoped it would be.
