Minor Mod to Door Pockets – Big Difference in Comfort & Noise

Just continuing with the little touches here and there to make the van feel a bit more comfortable — and a bit less plastic, to be honest.

One minor annoyance I’ve had is the door pockets. Being hard plastic, anything in them tends to rattle and move around, especially when the music’s up loud. It’s not a huge issue, but enough to be irritating.

While I was sound deadening and insulating the doors, I decided to take a proper look at the pockets. To my surprise, they’re actually made of two pieces plastic welded together. With a bit of heat and patience, I was able to pop them apart.

I then lined the inside with the same carpet used throughout the rest of the build, and reattached the parts using a mix of plastic bonder and a bit of plastic welding (of sorts).

Result?

The pockets feel more solid

No more rattling or buzzing from loose items

It seems to have added to the overall vibration deadening too

For context, I sound-deadened the doors using Dodo foam board and door skin – so this little tweak complements that nicely.

Curious to hear what others have done — any other small mods you've made that ended up making a big difference to comfort or d20250724_183010.webpriving experience?

Hi, So motivated and guided by Alex swampy, and tired of the plastic rattles and poor speaker sound, I did this.

1. Door card before,
2. Outer door skin factory sound deadening,
3. After my dodo matting attempt (tight) space) did not trust myself to take all the door apart.
4. Sound proofed inner door.
5. No heat gun, but drill used to separate two bits of door card........
6. Pockets lined then extreme Evo stick to put back togetherness phew...
7. Eggshell covering most of the operational scares.
8. Finished.

Lessons Learnt
-Takes 2 days or so glue drying etc.
-Door sounds more like a golf more solid.
-Speakers sound definitely better.
-Rattles gone.
-Well worth the effort.

Thanks Alex swampy for the guidance.

-Put some of those rubber door inserts in for good from VanX for good measure.

-just need to pick my time for second door.

Looking very smart! I must say the colours of your doors are far more appealing! Glad it all worked out!
