That looks like a kkl cable used for older vag vehicles. I guess its pin 7 on that obd that is used to connect to the w-bus.
On that cd, My guess is that it contains wtt software and with the usb dongle you have access to a tab called Dataset in the software.... Perhaps...
would be nice to see the file structure / contents of that cd

Hi @canard1971 ,

Thank you so much for your answer, really appreciated.

i have ordered this kit, it is supposed to be sent along with the software but... not sure about the "flash tool" you mention... is it the Webasto diagnostic tool - engineering mode ...?

Yes, after a few minutes, when there is heat, the regular ventilation gets enabled and heats the cabin.

Wow.. i did not expect that. I want to use the thermo top EVO engine heater to heat the water from my water tank which is underneath the van. I dont have clear yet if use an heater exchanger heating the engine and the water at the same time or just recirculate the water from the tank throught the webasto and loose the engine heater function...
So in my case, i wouldnt need the regular ventilation from the cabin to turn on

I am wondering if i could disable it by unticking the bit 3... what do you think guys_

1641826744951.png

Yes, it’s possible. But I think I read in the thread that the guys with VW firmware also noticed error messages. Anyway, with the Webasto SW it works fine without changing this setting.
This really seems kind of incredible to me... have you had the chance to check if the heater turn on automatically when the temp outside is below +5 after flashing the unit?

I have just received the cable and the webasto multicontroler from the polish shop. It basically bypass the oem cable taking the power supply and the w-bus pin to the heater being able tu plug in the multicontroler

@canard1971 did you used any .prn file to flash the heater? People says in other forums/threads a .prn file in needed to flash it

Thanks

The Webasto upgrade SW doesn’t alter the SW version. It’s not like a generic Webasto firmware overwrites the VW firmware. The existing functionality is kept, only the parking heater feature is enabled. SW version attached below. I checked the live data in OBDEleven and noticed that the heater was running as an auxiliary heater when it was cold.

Not sure what you mean by bypass the OEM cable. Yes, Multicontroller needs power and w-bus, but w-bus is normally not connected to the electrical system of the car, so nothing needs to be bypassed.

Not sure what kind of files that are provided on the Webasto upgrade CD. Could be prn files, but it’s nothing that is visible to the user. Have no time to check it now, but could do it later.

Very interesting, i can see in the screenshot you have the same SW version after flashing the webasto as before as @wolny said in the page 4 of this thread, below are the SW available for the engine heater and he and a couple of people installed the firm FL_7E0963272B__0009.frf - Parking Heater in order to unlock the "parkin heater" functionality via VCP. The difference between you an them they used a kit from VW and you are using one from webasto.

Link for Webasto FlashFiles MEGA
There are 3 files:
FL_7E0963272B__0009.frf - Parking Heater
FL_7E0963272C__0009.frf - Parking Heater
FL_7E0963273A__0009.frf - Engine Heater
Name of flash file dedicated for specified module you can find here: VAG-Flashfiles Information

I know it may be a lot to ask but... would you mind to share some screenshots of the proccedure you followed to flash the heater?
this is the piece of the puzzle i am missing... i know i will be able to use the WTT software and run tests and diagnose the heater but i am really lost how to flash it with this tool and if there was something in the process that indicates the use of some SW file o just there is an option inside the WTT like "Reset factory config" or "flash device" etc

thanks in advanced
Cheers
Miguel

Yes, my understanding is that the FL_7E0963272B__0009.frf firmware has the parking heater enabled by VW already. Thus, no Webasto unlock is necessary. If you have access to the VW flashing tools, that option is cheaper since no Webasto upgrade kit is needed. I doubt that the w-bus control units (e.g. Multicontroller) will work though. I read in the thread that a LIN-bus control unit was required. However, I don't really know how LIN-bus differs from w-bus. They seem to be based on the same electrical protocol.

The Webasto flashing procedure is well described in this video. It's in german, but I think you get the picture anyway. The first part of the video shows how to make sure that the USB interface is mapped to COM1 serial port. The second half of the video shows the flashing procedure.

I haven't used the WTT myself, and I don't think you can use it to unlock the heater (at least not in a simple straight forward way). You need to buy the Webasto T6 upgrade CD (or use the VW firmware way).

Hi canard1971,

Now, i have all the pieces of the puzzle... that is a custom flash tool made by webasto... not the WTT. i think i would be able to flash the heater with the WTT with engineering mode but... i think for that i would need that firmware to use... thing i dont have yet...

Thanks for the explanation
Miguel

I think in the wwt you have an option called Dataset, where you can read dataset from file, Read data from device etc..
So i guess you need the webasto firmware, and select read dataset from file then select Into device, need the webasto connected to the pc and connected to the wwt for this to work
I guess there is a "custom" software you can use to flash the webasto unit. Not sure. many options........
Would be nice to see the contents of that cd to figure out what this is.
A cd can be easy broken, make an .iso image of the disc so you have it as backup and store it on Mega or Onedrive or someting

Hi Parafin

Yes, that dataset option is inside WTT engineering mode which, as far as i know, can be used to flash the heater.
Finally i am not going to WTT flashing option as i havent found the firmware to flash and buying the CD and the dongle is too expensive.

Cheers
Miguel

Yes, that upgrade kit is bloody expensive, and you can only use it for that. Getting a vcp is a better option if you are intrested in doing more with the vehicle.

Hello guys,

I hope you all are doing great.

I have asked the same in another thread, just wanted to post it here as well as this post has a lot viewers too. (Admins, removed if not allowed)

Just wondering, have tried to switch on the parking heater ( with remote) when the engine is more or less at workin temp?

For example, after a short-medium ride, try to star the thermo top with the remote.
What is the behavior of it?
Does it switch on?
Or just recirculate the coolant until it drops the temp and then the webasto start in order to keep the coolant warm..?

I guess this questions ca be answered too by people who has more parking heater more than 30 minutes running

Thanksin advanced
Miguel

Cant help you with that Miguel,

I have been looking at a T6.1 that we have at work, in the MFD you can set the webasto there.. Does anyone else has this function on the display?
I wounder what needs to be done to have that function to show up in the MFD.

So today, I connected my WTT2.16.1 and the USB interface to my heater. I was able to back up the dataset as a .prn file and uploaded it back to the heater just to confirm I can upload a .prn file. it worked.
This means the only part of the puzzle holding the party is the parking heater .prn file.

Not sure what files are on the blue dongle. I am thinking it's some kinda upload loading tool. But my understanding is, it's a one time use only ( encrypted ). Correct me if I am wrong.

I have a feeling with the parking heater .prn file, the heater can be converted from auxiliary heating to parking heating with the WTT 2.16.1 engineering mode
If anyone with a parking heating TTEVO is willing to back up their files from their heater and share it will be awesome!
Or anyone with the dataset CD would like to share the content will fabulous!
Will keep searching and keep you updated.

Germplus

Update..

It could also be possible that the .PRN is just a setting ( Algorithm ) and the firmware ( possibly on the blue dongle ? ) should be updated first

A .prn file is purely data not software.Like this:

From what I can see on the CD, it contains USB drivers and the executables. No PRN files. So it looks like updates are embedded in the executable.
The dongle is just a key/license. Without the dongle, the Webasto SW won't run.

i think it was me apart from another couple of member who introduced the idea of flashing the heater with WTT software without even knowing for sure. all i have seen till now is this "custom made software tool", engineered by webasto i guess to unlock the heater.

I have no idea what it does behind the scenes, if it installs a VW firm, a webasto one with the capabilities of VW one... like a black box to me.

that is why i went for the VCP/VW firm option (not done yet, waiting to receive the telestart unit) instead of the webasto one ( and it is cheaper :D)

Allrite lads, Im goin to fit the Telestart module my self., under the seat, sincee the w-bus wire is there and power and grounds is there too.
Now.... How about the hvac? i do thave the manual control.. no auto functions on this skimmed version of T6 i got. Where is the wires for the hvac i need to get to and what to connect where. i guess i need some sort of relays and fuses.

Hello mate,

I havent done it myself as i have climatronic. I expect to do it in a T5 in next couple of months. I guess the procedures should be mostly the same as in these manual.

Keep in mind ping 3 of the receiver has +12v... dont know if it is useful
