my van is in for an mot and they have noticed its got an oil leak from the crankshaft main oil seal,
i have the all in warrenty but the claim has been rejected.
Has anyone had this done under the all in package ?
the van has full vw service history and only done 68k

Got any pics?

What reason did vw give you to say it's rejected

It's in the small print. Seals aren't covered alone unless the seal needs replacing when another job is being done.
A bit naughty because there's many posts here about these seals failing prematurely so there must be an issue with the original design or materials.

Thread retitled to garner some attention.
Hopefully you’ll hear someone else has had it done, and perhaps get them to honour it.

Going through the same at present. Just posted on another thread. Defo get no joy with the All-in. item 5 I think of t&cs excludes oil leaks. Brought my T6 privately with this so called All-in warranty. Sales blurb clearly sells the peace of mind bo**ocks. Never got t&cs and they could have sent them when the policy transferred to my name which they didnt so never aware they even existed.

Spoke to underwriters tech guys who make the decision and they seemed to know their stuff. Ex mechanics. They administer for various manufacturers and VW are the only ones that excludes oil leaks!!

the only chance you have is goodwill gesture and seems arbitrary and randomly applied. they have offered me discount as a goodwill gesture but I will also have to pay for new timing belt and water pump on top which don’t need doing yet but be foolish not to.

had the oil seal, timing belt and water pump priced at a local indi specialist at £550 ish. Vw wanted near £500 just for seal. Indi is not genuine parts but assured me OEM quality and made by the same supplier to VW

only issue I have is that warranty still has 8 months to run so reluctant to jeopardise it.

incidentally had to pay for replacing a broken engine mount which I was told by the stealers was definitely not covered by the warranty only to be told by the underwriters that is definitely is covered so waiting to see if I can get my money back for that one

total sh1t show

I had the exact same problem and was also refused the repair on the All In warranty. That was August last year. Got it done at an independent for £650 inc new cambelt (which was only a year old). Guess what… back in the dealer for service today and they say it’s leaking again. WTF. I believe it was a genuine part so I’m hoping it’s under a 2 year warranty

Claiming on VW parts warranty is a mare if the work isn't originally carried out by VW. I had glow plug 3 (with the sensor) repaired at my local indy and within 12 months it was throwing the same error again.
When I contacted VW about claiming on the part they told me I'd have to take my van to the van centre so they could test it and we all know how difficult it is to get booked in, takes ages!

You would have thought, well, I thought, a manufacturers warranty should cover everything that isn't fair wear and tear, or accident damage? Oil seals are none of these, and should be covered, after all the vehicle purchase has paid for the first 3 years, and any extended warranty is paid for thereafter.
If basic things are excluded, what's the point of any warranty? Ah, of course, the Seychelles holiday fund for the warranty providers...............

Have you got pics of the leak?

The new Crank seal needs sealant to the block.... Mine was weeping oil after the VWCV job and needed tightening up.

Or is it leaking from the bearing area?

In any case it's not good that VW are claiming small print waffle and swerving oil leak jobs.....that's just not cricket.

All-in should mean All-in.

VW Warranty is all documented and it’s not covered. Vote with your wallet.
Fair enough. And true.

But still smoke and mirrors.

So if oil leaks are out........

What's the take on the other two most common issues.

Blocked EGR and failing DMF?

Carbon fouling isn’t covered either as far as I’m aware so that’s the EGR out.

Well just the DMF to confirm.

And my new bus needs one.

And I'm now all-in and looking to book In for a service and all+in DMF in November.

So we'll see what they say...... Mine sounds like a tractor first thing when cold ..... But quietens down when the engine warms up to running temp.

100% defo failing DMF springs.

I had an crankshaft oil seal replaced under warranty as it was discovered at the first MOT a week before it was 3 years old. I was lucky, if it had been discovered after the warranty had ran out then I would have had to pay for it. The advisor at VW dealer advised the work carried out would be guaranteed for 2 years (I Think?) and the part for 3 years from fitting.

So the update… took back to my local indie who did the work. They spoke to VW and felt it was going to be a big effort getting a claim through and weren’t convinced I’d be helped so they just changed it free of charge.

Just been informed mine is leaking as well and needs fixing at cost of £820.86 or to be precise from report

Front main crank seal leaking oil. Requires new seal, flange and other associated parts. Oil leaks aren't covered under All In Warranty

The cheeky buggers even suggested they can save me money by having cambelt and water pump done at same time. To quote

Cambelt & Water Pump recommended due to age of vehicle. However, Volkswagen advise replacement of Cambelt every 124,300 miles. Recommend having this work carried out alongside the Front Main oil leak as more cost effective. Cambelt & Water Pump will be £447.00 (instead of £699) if done with repair.

On this second item I did point out to them that if they had bothered to check service history this was only done in April 2021 so why would I even consider doing it now (and only 18,000 miles ago)

All in plan runs out in less than 6 months so might be time to find a good independent to do it seal instead as Warranty part of all in covers bugger all. At least I only treated the Warranty as an add on when took out as savings on service/MOT's/Break down cover made it worth while (When I took out came with 30% of and interest free over 2 years)

literally just got home from picking my van up having had the exact same above works done. Van is a 2019 T6 Kombi, new to me in April.

agree all in warranty somewhat a waste of time however I will caveat that later

first MOT could not be provided under plan as 6 week wait and MOT ran out in 4! still have 2 MOTs remaining but not sure i will ever use these TBH

booked in for 56k major service (@53k). had to pay for DSG oil change, how this not a service item is beyond me?

discovered oil leak, really pi**ed me off. My most expensive vehicle purchase ever and needed due to job change and wanted something reliable and would hopefully last into early retirement. A big cash investment you might say. I don't chop and change vehicles, had a previous T5 by accident and loved it but prior to that Toyota and Nissan 4 x 4's. those Japanese know how to make reliable cars that I could carry out most maintenance items myself. I am used to older vehicles with the odd oil weep but was not expecting it on my new van!

naively thought nice van 12 months manufacturer's warranty ..... what could possibly go wrong? later discovered the warranty has more exclusions than inclusions. I even spoke to the warranty underwriters and they stated that of all the manufacturers they represent VW are in a minority in not covering oil leaks.

after a lot of complaining to VW, VWFS (warranty provider) and speaking to underwriters I had a marginally successful result in that the dealers discounted the works "as a gesture of goodwill" how this works in practice who knows as surely the dealerships can't supplement the repair of these types of very common faults. I recon I got 45% off the prices you list above. Not great but better than a kick in the teeth. at 53k I didn't need to changed timing belt etc but done now and not necessarily a bad thing.

I could of got it done cheaper at a local independent VW specialist. It was a tough call and part of me wishes I had just let warranty run out next year and had the work done away from VW. The independent would not fit genuine VW parts but the parts they do fit are OEM quality if not better and I have used them before and trust them unlike the stealers. My only consideration was in my case the marginal saving based on the discounted estimate and the effect on the remaining VW warranty. You case paying full list might put a different slant on it particularly given you have newish timing belt and pump. It also looks slightly better having genuine parts if I decide to sell going forward. so bit the bullet and now repaired.

during my research including trawling through numerous posts on this forum I came to the following conclusion:
  • some have had the works covered FOC under manufacturers warranty
  • some have had the works covered FOC as a gesture of goodwill (a good friend is included in this and his scenario was exactly the same as mine and on an older van. When I challenged VW on this they said that periodically they have campaigns that this type of thing comes under so in essence he was lucky)
  • some have had a discount applied me included but had to make a nuisance of myself and VW customer care are atrocious to say the least.
  • don't believe the repair is 100% reliable but at least have two year dealer warranty. many posts suggests the repaired seal eventually leaks again
one thing for sure is that it is a very common failure due to poor design/manufacture. parts have been re-engineered but still don't seem fit for purpose. one suggestion on here was that the assembly should have been manufactured from aluminium not nylon/plastic .... they may have a point !

All-in Warranty

I am on the fence at present as to it's value going forward. I may have the option to extend for another couple of years when it expires next year as I will be within the age limit. is it worth it? not sure but the other potential issues to look forward to are:
  • EGR issues , again grey area as to what dealers or warranty will pick up
  • DSG gearbox faults
  • DSG flywheel side oil seal
  • Flywheel
  • Head unit touch screen failure (dealer states they are seeing 6 a week)
HAPPY FOR MEMBERS TO ADD OTHER COMMON FAILURES

so is the expense worth underwriting some of the above, getting included services and VW breakdown assist ??

I have managed to get an engine mount and door lock actuator replaced under the warranty .... again common failures although was initially charged for the engine mount having been told it was not covered when it is apparently.

PM me if you can be ar**d for the fight and I can give you some detail. for me sometimes its more about the principal than the money.
I can certainly recommend a very good independent VW specialist not far from us if you need one

You’re correct but as long as there are a queue of people paying a year in advance for a van that isn’t even manufactured they don’t have much to worry about.
