Uprated Tailgate Struts

I bought some THQ 1200 that I don’t need now. Fitted then taken off, so new. 20 quid. DM if interested.
Thanks Fivetones, I now have said THQ struts

Fitted them and I’m back where are started really, although I think these are better than the vanstyle ones I think the wife will still struggle to close the boot!

I wonder how much weight is supposed to be on the tailgate for the 1250n. I’ve obviously underdone the insulation!

I now have a set of 985n vw struts, DM me if you are interested in them (also have the original 900n in the garage)

That's what i'm doing on mine. I figure that the difference between the two sides isn't huge; VW reckon it's fine to only have a strut on one side of the bonnet; some people have spare tyres strapped to one side of their tailgate which would have the same effect as mismatched struts....
All in all i decided it wasn't worth worrying about.

Bonnet struts are considered a hazard in a front end impact and manufacturers lose NCAP points for them, hence only one if they can get away with it, or none if they're close to the limit points-wise.

Its also a lot lighter so one is really all thats needed.

The danger at the rear is that uneven tortion might induce twisting, and in a structure with a dirty great window glued to it that's not a desirable state of affairs.

It’s a fair point about the wheel on the tailgate but also fair point on twisting the tailgate frame with glass in it.

I’ll leave it for now. And maybe look for 1100n struts :)
