Uprated Tailgate Struts

Nah, I don’t want or need the 1200N struts. I don’t have a bike rack or tailgate chair pod or anything.

Added just enough sound deadening and insulation to cause my tailgate to sag. I need only the 985N struts.

THQ and others have their own cheaper struts but all are 1200+N.

And I’ve decided not to go with struts with unrecognisable brand names.

So… £120 it is!

You dont wanna cheap out on these, i bought 1200N ones from Autodoc, i believe the manufacturer was Stark automotives. The gas strut was literally shit, it felt like it didnt sit right. I paid the price and just installed them. Couple of months later this happened.

Bent the lid on the top, scratched the sheet metal to bare metal and left scrapes all over. Nothing a hammer and small amount of paint chip paint cant fix. Next ones will be from VW for sure.

£30 one's are worth a try, get vw one's if they are crap, put cheap ones on my t4 and ended up costing me a tailgate window ( long story)

I know this thread is old now but thought I would add my bit.
I’ve just purchased the van style 1200nm ones. Fitted them fine and my initial impressions were that they are a bit mighty if you don’t have any weight on the tailgate. You need a fair bit of force to close them and they open with a bang.

After a couple of weeks while closing the tailgate I heard a horrible bang and a crunch. The bottom fitting had come off and had broken the rear light cluster.

I contacted vanstyle they just said I had fitted them wrong but it didn’t seem to matter how I fitted them they could be pulled off by hand.

Currently one led rear light cluster down and two useless struts. I’m a bit miffed.

Transporter HQ ones all the way.

Uberbus also do an HD kit which I think comes with uprated mounts, but it's very spendy.

Yikes. Nightmare. My genuine VW ones have been perfect. Didn’t need super strong ones for bike rack, etc, just enough to lift my sound deadening and insulation.

I think I ended up replacing with the 900n originals. The vanstyle ones were definitely too strong (wife couldn’t close the boot!) but now I have to push it up to make sure it’s fully up. Most of the time it is but in some weather conditions it doesn’t go all the way and after hitting your head once on the corner of the tailgate you soon learn to check!

Just checked and I actually have 985n ones

I don’t remember getting them but you can see with the T5 “type” rack fitted and some soundproofing/insulation fitted they are not quite up to the job:

Yea I can imagine. I did the 985nm struts which are perfect for sound deadening, etc but just.

And yes, at 6’6”, I too have experienced tailgate meets headbone….
