Too Many OBDii Faults For My Liking!

If you disassemble the van to the point where you can get the fuse box unbolted (be wary of dropping bolts down the gap) you can remove the black plastic cover that covers the wire entries to the rear of the box, then remove the purple plastic combs that lock the wires that are already in place.

Happy New Year to you

I have a little to time for a change to do some of the van and currently trying to get my ignition live in. Got to the stage where I have the top set of fuses out of the holder from the rear (not easy) and in my hand. Where you say 'then remove the purple plastic combs that lock the wires that are already in place' do you mean you removed the entire purple/mauve back part which slots into the black part? Because a) Although there is a press part on each corner it doesn't look like it will come out easily b) I'm afraid every wire in the entire block will come lose! I presume the JPT terminals not be pushed through both parts at the same time?

Sorry grim Reaper thought of another question, although I presume an easier one this time.

When using the JPT terminals do you place the live taken from a wire at the back to the right or left of the fuse box?
 
My fusebox under the gear lever has a red lock tab in it and the bottom (?) end.
Look at 15min mark on this video for something similar.
Pulling the comb out releases the lock on the wires already in place and allows you to add more connections to empty spaces.
Just remember to refit the comb to lock everything in place before refitting the fuse box (DAMHIK)
Looking at the back side of the fuse box, you will see large gauge wires feeding a copper common plate down one side of a row of fuses, this is the feed side, some will be permanently live, some will be switched live, you just need to work out which is which with a multimeter. To add a fuse you just need to add a connection to the empty side of the fuse row to add am output from the fuse box and install a fuse to connect the live side to the accessory side.
 
The JPT terminals have ears on them that click the terminal into place so it won't fall out, the comb/retainer just ensures that they CAN'T come out.

Thanks for trying to help. I'm now wondering if you have a T6! Mine (T5 2014) is nothing like this (see pic) and I have had to thread the purple/pink part right back
up the wires to access where the pins go into the back of the black part. I have managed to get my pins with wires connected into the slots :mad: Now just have to find a way of seperating the bunch of wires enough to solder to the ignition live I have found.

Hello,

Having lost my driveway space for carrying on with my leisure battery installation for the foreseeable I thought I would have a go with my new VCDS and see how I get on. I have pasted my results below. I tried clearing these by licking on Clear all DTC on the left but have since read this doesn't work so then tried clearing them individually but they still seem to come back!

Things which may be worth mentioning:
a) The passenger seat isn't currently fitted
b) I never registered my new battery before (the old OBD11 unit wouldn't do it) and I'm not sure how with VCDS yet!

I hope this is OK just pasted here, please let me know if there is a better way.

Anyways, thanks for posting the VCDS Scan, seems that the "old" fault didn't disappear.

However, in the Scan, please don't delete the vehicle VIN totally, scrub just 5 last digits. A few crucial bits of information are now missing.
 
Thanks mmi I noticed this when using the other OBD11 device but just assumed it was another short coming of the unit.
 
Do you think there is more I can do on VCDS to further identify what is causing this fault?
VCDS can do a few things:

(1) I'd like to see full blockmap of the controller 61-Battery Management when engine is running.

VCDS -> Applications -> Controller Channel Map ->
61-Controller_Maps_Meas_Values.png
Tick/fill boxes as above and hit Go

VCDS Flashes screens for a moment (when finished hit "Done, Go Back") and there will be file blockmap-61-... in directory C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs\

Please upload the file - just strip off last 3 digits of the VIN in file name and rename the files as .TXT-file (as The Forum doesn't like .CSV files o_O).


(2) For the controller 61-Battery Management there are two tests you could run using VCDS when engine is running.
a. Command manually alternator off
b. Command manually alternator to max voltage

If you have a voltmeter - just for comparison monitor the battery voltage (e.g cigarette lighter socket).​

VCDS -> Select Control Module -> 61-Battery Management -> Output Tests ->

Select the test "...10.6V" -> Start

Run test for 1 min - record the data above.
Make a note of engine RPM

-> Stop

Please post the results.

Select test "...15.0V" -> Start

Make a note of engine RPM

-> Stop

Please post the results.

Exit the VCDS, turn off the engine.

(3) Real time data can be monitored using

VCDS -> Select Control Module -> 61-Battery Management -> Advanced Measurement Values ->
Tick for example the following to monitor alternator output and currents in/out of the battery.

Thanks for the above.

Today I attempted to code my battery correctly. I have no idea if I did this right as what I saw on the video linked by grim reaper above didn’t seem quit correct on my VCDS. For instance if I follow the none UDS version at the point 1 minute 54 seconds in on the video he chooses a drop down menu, I don’t even see this. I also don’t get a battery coding button or a pop-up like he does 1 minute 57 second in.

I have attached a auto scan again but as txt this time, which was taken after clearing the faults, attempting the battery coding and then running the engine for 10 minutes. I would appreciate any comments but I suspect it is the same results as before.

Unfortunately as my driveway is currently being excavated by the local gas company I’m having to park the van at my sons 30 odd miles away (according to the OH I have too many vehicles:whistle:), which obviously isn’t making for easy popping out and checking anything!

I will follow your instructions below when I get over there next but it may be several days.

EDIT: I suspect I could also do with repeating my scan I did on my post 50 in this thread but don’t know how yet on VCDS :oops:
