T5.1 Rain sensitive wipers not working

HI, I've just bought a 2015 T5.1 and after lurking on here for a while this is my first post! The rain sensitive wipers aren't working (I can do single wipes or wipers on full, but no intermittent or rain sensitive wiping). I've done the usual google searches and tried a BCM Hard reset/Capacitive discharge and checked the fuses, but still not working. what else should I look at? Thanks.

Just to clarify - the following gives no wipes at all?
Set the wiper stalk to OFF, sensitivity switch to the left (least sensitive position) -- IGN ON
1) move wiper stalk one step up (intermittent/rain sense position) -- do you get one wipe?
2) move sensitivity switch one step to right -- do you get one wipe?
2.a) move sensitivity switch one more step to right -- do you get one wipe?

Yes, that is exactly what I get (much better explanation than I can manage)!.

I've tried it at various speed (including motorway) and with everything from light drizzle to torrential rain and get nothing more than the single wipe when I move the wiper stalk or sensitivity switch.

Ok - obviously the functionality is initialized correctly. I believe we are left with the rain sensor circuitry. The fuse is SC21 (T5.1).

What about the autolights - do they work? OFF in bright daylight, ON if you blank the sensor?
(The sensors are in the same module).

Can you see if rain sensor transmits infrared (use cellphone's camera)?
Have a look here --> https://www.t6forum.com/threads/rain-closing.58/post-261054
(The above is T6 but it might be similar working principle in T5.1 - although the part numbers for the sensor are not the same).

The auto headlights are working and I tried looking for the infrared using my phone camera but cannot see anything (not sure if that's because its not there or just because I'm incompetent - I'll try again later when the sun isn't so bright!).

I think a fault scan could be helpful to determine if there are any faults logged ?

Cheers both, I'm hoping I know someone with a suitable VCDS, but if not any recommendations as to what's good value?

An earlier thread on the subject...

Then just some weird stuff to demonstrate how deep you can go with VCDS -->

I’ve borrowed a Carista and there are no obvious wiper related fault codes and the auto wipers were set ‘on’! I’ve tried turning them off and on again and it’s not made any difference. I’ve currently just turned it off so at least have the intermittent wipers now! Is there anything else (relatively simple) worth looking at or should I just live with intermittent wipers?

Although unlikely culprit, but we could double-check that the rain sensor is activated correctly in Central electrics controller (BCM).
It can be then decrypted from "Detailed ECU info"-report (under Service menu) - just post it here.
For the above you need to activate the auto wipers first and then do the "Detailed ECU info".

Thanks - yes the rain/light sensor is coded correctly and activated in the BCM.
The fact that autolights work, a kind of proves that power and wiring to the sensor are good. Also the wiper stalk+switches work correctly. Thus current assumption is that the rain sensor part is faulty.

Anyways, the "manual" intermittent wipers is a good workaround.

Glad to have found this thread. I have a similar issue. No Intermittent wipers at all.
Will ask my mate to plug his PC in to it and see what comes up.
