Steering wheel upgrade

Can anyone help. I have a T6 Leighton can with carbon effect flat bottom mfsw. Thing is, the paddles have never worked. Can they ever work? Has something been left unplugged. My van gearbox is DSG. Appreciate the help.

They plug into the back of the buttons I think. I did mine a couple of years ago and no coding was needed. I doubt Leighton would send them out not working so must be a loose connection possibly

I’ve bought a new flat bottomed & reupholstered wheel and it’s come with buttons. I’m reusing my air bag & currently waiting on a new leather & grey stitch airbag cover for it.

All looks the same apart from the middle button on the left. Mine is blank & the new wheel has a button for what I think is ACC (?)

I’m guessing I’ll need to transfer my existing buttons to this new wheel & I’ll be good to go, just wanted to double check I’m right before I remove my wheel & risk spoiling another weekend trying to make the van nicer.

if you have access to VCDS check if they are enabled. Might me wrong on this though

Might be a daft question but if you get a van that doesn’t have a MFSW can you buy one and the electrics etc are behind the old one to install the new one and get it all to work?

There’s no daft questions on here.
You can fit a MFSW to your van if it never came with one.
You need to have the correct T6 buttons on it to work properly and the correct loom at the back of it.
You also need to add 3 wires in.
They attach to the big connector behind the wheel.
One goes to the light switch
One to the BCM above the pedals
And the last is to activate cruise control and needs to go to the ecu below the battery in the engine bay.
It’s all possible to do with help from guys on here.
I did it myself and am super impressed with having cruise control now.
If you go for it theres lots of info on here how to do it.
I can also help with telling you what loom, wires and connectors to buy and give you exact pins/positions for them.
I bought a custom wheel from SScustomworks.
Sourcing the correct T6 buttons is the most difficult

Thanks for that, currently looking for a van and lots of startlines out there that I’d need to change, I’d probably get a new steering wheel from leighton vans so hopefully they’d be able to connect it all up for a price.
