(Side Assist) / (Blind Spot Detection & Rear Cross Traffic Alert) retrofit

Slightly different theme here but i am in the planning stages of some T6.1 retrofits and currently looking at this topic

Looking at the different versions

Dont know.
The 3Q0 is a MRR Sensor from Bosch, the same as the ACC Radar in Front.
It looks like this is a newer Generation.
And someone compared the following Sensors:
1. Place 3Q0907566E (Bosch MRR-Rear) ==> Best
2. Place 2Q0907686B (Hella RS4) ==> not so good
3. Place 5Q0907686B (Hella BSD3) ==> Bad

2Q0 is standard fit for the MQB 6.1 but doing some digging on the 3Q0 version and looking at the pros and cons
Is there any added functionality or benefit that any of you know of with 3Q0 units ?

My understanding is the 2Q0 are self calibrating and 3Q0 are not so i am assuming as these are 'proper' radars the calibration is going to be a major PITA, i have full access to genuine licensed ODIS but not sure that is going to help me here ?

Im obviously leaning towards the 2Q units but before i commit anyone know any pros to counter this ?

Maybe 3Q0 907 566 at address 3C (J769) paired with 3Q0 907 590 at address CF (J770) is the best setup
but it uses Component Protection and its retrofit becomes a little bit more complex.
5Q0 and 2Q0 don't use CP, wiring on these two is almost the same (some repining is required).
I am actually quite happy with my 5Q0 setup on my T6 but I have already bought all components for 2Q0 retrofit on my MQB Tiguan.
I shall have this retrofit completed by the end of July(this year :D).
If I find 2Q0 to be a major improvement over 5Q0, the same system will be introduced on my T6.

2Q0 Side Assist combined with RCTA has been successfully installed and configured on my Tiguan .

Once dynamic calibration gets to 100% I shall provide you with the feedback and my subjective opinion .

First of all, 2Q0 radars suppose to be a significant improvement over 5Q0 ones
but honestly so far I can't see any major difference. Both systems simply work as designed.

I guess this extra info below, might be useful for any T6.1 owner or anyone considering 2Q0 radar system retrofit.

Physical installation is very simple,
I would say plug&play.
The wiring diagram for the T6.1 is below.
I have actually followed the Audi A1 wiring diagram, but it is the same as the T6.1.
The only difference is a suppression filter, but again, I haven't used one.

If you don't want to make the wiring from the scratch, then you can purchase any side assist wiring loom online (Kufatec, etc.) and modify it accordingly.

I got my radars here

Radar plug here

Mirror LEDs with plugs here

Radar brackets
Local VW dealership (approx €10 each)

After completing installation and connecting all wiring, my system showed one error (invalid data set - as expected).

There are few sources of data sets but the easiest and the handiest is VCP database(server).
They have 38 variants for 2Q0 of which 15 are for VW. Unfortunately, the one supposedly for Tiguan AD1 didn't work for me.

If you are guessing then yes, you are right, the upload count number 15 was the correct one in my case :p.
All remaining 14 were either giving me shite loads of false detections or some statistic faults.
Below is a kind of reference for the allocation of the data set to the vehicle model.

These data sets are not being uploaded via "data set upload" procedure like a typical ZDC files.
Instead, the upload is done through the flasher, exactly the same way as the firmware flash files:thumbsup:

Among these data sets I have tried the one for T6.1, and weirdly I got a fault regarding mirror LEDs.
I can only suspect that T6.1 mirror LEDs are different (different wattage and/or voltage compared to the ones I have used).

Once the correct data set was uploaded, my system completed dynamic calibration within 11km and the happiness began

I will start this project :)
After reading this thread 4 times, I start to be ready !
First of all I must buy:
-1K8 919 472 C (PDC Module) ✅
-7LA937147 & 7LA937148 (plastic brackets of T6.1)
-2Q0907685B & 2Q0907686B (2Q0 are the best choice from scratch)✅
-3GD 949 145 & 3GD 949 146 (lateral leds for passat B8 2015-2016 : 12v Leds)
-cover with holes for leds (I will buy already with holes, like 7E1857527N GRU & 7E1857528N GRU, but must paint them after)
-wires Adapter to plug pdc
-abs directionnal sensors (WHT 003 856 B and WHT 003 857 B for T6 4 motions)
-wires kit from kufatec (be careful, not the good plugs for 2Q0)
-1J0973714 (1.5 mm plugs for 2Q0)

waiting for the other parts !

2Q0 & 5Q0 radars use 12V mirror LEDs.
7E0 use 5V version and because I have started with 7E0 and I didn't want to change mirror LEDs, I adopted my 5V version to work with 5Q0/2Q0.

I tried zener diodes but the control module was throwing fault codes at me :p, so I had to introduce additional resistor(already explained in this thread).

Yes, Thanks a lot for the feedback I will take the « allready 12v leds »
On a T6, if you decided to start the retrofit, you should have choose 2Q0 or 5Q0 ?
(2Q0 are cheaper on ebay for me)

I did a little bit of testing with the Transporter side assist LEDs being supplied with 5.5V as they expect with 7E0 radars, and 12V from the 5Q0/2Q0 radars dropped with a resistor as per the info in this thread.

For reference, I used 200 ohm 1W resistors with no errors.

Are all the led the same size?
This one is for passat, is it the same size as the t5/t6 one?

I've no idea if the measurements are the same, but I can try and measure the T5.1/T6 one I have if that helps for comparison. I'm not sure if there's a difference between mirror casings (and therefore led size) from T6 to T6.1, but it sounds like the T6.1 version will not need any resistors to drop the volts.

I made a small observation today...

I'm using the 5Q0 907 686C radars in my van, with my old instrument cluster, T5.1 2D colour premium (7E0 920 980G Hw 06 Sw 0405) I just had "Side Assist" as a menu item...

Now I've upgraded the cluster to a T6 3D colour premium (7E0 920 880S Hw 04 Sw 1109) I have "Rear Traffic" and "Blind Spot" available...so it looks like RCTA potentially requires a newer instrument cluster if you're on a T5.1.

Please help!!! Today I received information that Side assist cannot work without a rain sensor and high beam assistant (Fla). Can anyone confirm or deny this information?
