Replacement Grille With Built-in 230v Socket

But doesn’t the GTE Plug have a rubber cover? I assume the VT doesn‘t come with a waterproof cover?

Do you have any pics of the back prior to fitting?
No pics of the back sorry. The front seals to the "cup" behind the badge via a rubber pad around the perimeter. Should work same on T6 as per GTE.

NP, You’ve cleared up the female plug sprung cover and end cap questions.
Looks like my approach is quite different to the VT solution.
I assume the whole unit is Sika’d onto the grill? That’ll be my approach and hot glue behind to ensure a good mechanical fix.
Do the LED indicators work when you hook up? i still need to work out how to sort them.

LED indicators dont work, its basically just a physical siting of the HUP.

Looks to be assembled with something like Sika - yes.

Picked this GTE grille Up for a bargain,so have stripped it down, and worked out all the OEM connections ready for the mod!.....ie utilising the buttons/switches,leds and solenoid locking actuator if anyone is interested.

Could you share the OEM connections info please?

How has anyone got on with this mod? Are you all done @Wills ?
Well your enquiry kicked started my interest @Gigolo9182
see pics below.
I cut out the mk4 main template. The main Golf unit has to be mounted at the front of the template to enable the opening action of the door. Needs pushing in to release it.
i hot glued the unit / template in place so will man handle it later when it’s cooled down...
ill then hot glue It to whole thing to the grill.

Well I enjoyed that challenge and pleased with the result. I’m still unsure whether I’ll actually fit it though. This solution uses the Caravelle grill, which is far nicer than the standard offered commercially.

So, decided to just buy the whole grill off eBay in case I needed any other parts. How did you go about chopping your original grill to allow the hinge on the gte badge to sit in? I can’t see it on any of your pics! image.jpg

Note: My grill is off a Caravelle and is constructed different to a standard grill.
With the VW badge and backing removed, I used a dremel to tidy up the inside badge area for the plastic template to sit in.
make sense?

Not sure on that mate, on the caravelle grill did you have to trim any of the crossbars to allow the hinge housing to sit in the grill?7CC73F4E-3DE5-4C46-AE5A-AED7DA33A290.jpeg

Yes, I trimmed the grill bars and the GTE body to enable the body to seat in the badge area. I hope these pics help, otherwise keep asking...

I started with Perspex but found it too brittle so ended up with 5mm HDPE plastic off eBay.
