To complete your now almost Nordic setup - an OEM control panel/timer working in parallel with remote.
18-aux_heat_webasto_overhead_control-jpg.20991

Added functionality:
  • timer (3 programmable times - time + week day -> max week ahead), however they are just one shot - can only activate the next event (can't activate repeats e.g. automatically every Mo-Fr at 6:15, need always to "authorize" the next one).
  • set mode: heat or ventilation only
  • set heat/vent time on remote (as in pic 30 mins)
  • child lock

There is one side effect of this "retrofit" - one permanent fault in Aux. Heater (18).

Luckily there are no practical consequences.
It appears that connecting Telestart unit without the overhead timer is the cause .
Normally as a standard factory option the overhead timer always comes with Telestart.
Next step is to work out coding modification which will clear this fault .

@Robert

Does the auxiliary coolant heater have it's own built in pump, to circulate the coolant or is it a stand alone unit somewhere?

Auxiliary heater doesn't have a pump built in and it uses existing OEM pump on the coolant circuit.
The whole preheating process is triggered by Telestart and then controlled by Aux. Heater (18)
which communicates via CAN with any other associated components.
I hope this answers your question somehow;)

Is there an additional or uprated pump as opposed to the standard non aux heater pump?

Can confirm the cause. Disconnected my overhead timer panel - and as expected the same fault as above.
Did some coding experiments, however I didn't remove the "6E" from CANbus installation list.
Run basically through all the version codings + a few "unknowns" by changing the coding and then clearing the fault.

No luck with any of the above... - your turn now ;)

Once the Telestart is triggered remotely it produces 12V DC output on pin number 3 (green wire in my case). This then could be used as a ON confirmation signal. I don't know where to connect it, maybe horn:p:D:rofl:

Thanks Robert for this.
I'm fairly new here, try to get this done without a telestart module, but instead using an app-control(VW T6 - APP-control for water-heater)
My question: what signal is going to the white/green cable in the red connector(pin1): is it simple +12V, or is it W-bus/Lin?

Thanks,

Jaap Stomphorst

Hi Jaap,

This is quite good idea although much more expensive.
Assuming that you are referring to this.

VW-T6-stecker-PIN1.jpg

It is the Lin-bus cable which normally allows for communication between Telestart unit and actual heater(parking heater).
See below.
