OEM Headunit Problems [Merge]

I've just replaced the screen on mine - thanks to this thread.
Ordered this wireless adapter for my Carplay too from Amazon. Works really well.
Just noticed that's for Car Play only, I'll have a look for something similar for Android. (Also wasn't keen on the "finish" description on that one!)

I had this problem on my California.
Since i didn't find much detail online on how to fix the touchscreen, i made some video notes here:
Like all things, It's not that complicated once you know how.

The touch sensor costs about €15 shipped from China in about a month.
TDO-WVGA0633F00039 or TDO-WVGA0633F00045. (They are both the same part i believe.)

I thought i was going to have to try and un-stick the broken touch sensor from the LCD screen. They are glued together.
The thing that made the job much easier than i thought it was going to be is finding out how thin the touch sensor is.
But when the new sensor arrived, it was only about ~1mm thick so i just placed it over the top of the broken one without removing the old one.
The main head unit case is forgiving enough to take up the extra thickness.

Hope this helps someone.
Thanks Dunk, just completed this successfully with no experience whatsoever! Took me about an hour and was easy. Thank you for saving me a bundle!

My head unit screen is completely blank and I've read through all of this thread. Because there are no details I'm not sure replacing the digitizer screen will help. Also all the videos show a different head unit to the one I've got.

I'm contemplating upgrading the whole unit. Will a Crafter unit be compatible?

I have been trying to set the clock to the right time (it just bugs me to see the wrong time) and while looking through the steering wheel controls I found that I can still get my radio playing even though the screen remains blank. Does this imply that the ICE is OK, and it's just a problem with the display screen?
Can the screen unit be changed without having to replace the whole head unit?

Having sound issues on my 2019 T-Cross.
I thought it had the standard 6 speaker set up, 2 tweeters in the A pillars, 2 in front doors and 2 in rears.
Yesterday whilst in the car (which doest get much use) thought the sound didn't seem very good. I'm only getting sound from the 2 tweeters and passenger front door.
Going into the Sound menu on the headunit, I expected to see a rear fader function, but it's not there. Just a balance for left and right sides. On full right, nothing from drivers doors speaker or rear.
I'm not even sure I have rear speakers ? However the car is the SEL model which is high range so thought it would have them. Google Ai seems to think it should have 6.
So, anything to check to see if something has broke ?

Just adding my own experience

Overlaid a second digitiser bought from eBay 6 months ago using a thread link from this site. Cost about £12. Easy to do, result was about 7/10 as good as original, happy with that.

Started to fail after 4 months. Contacted the seller about a refund but no longer selling that item and did not reply. Too late for ebay to help.

Bought a new replacement digitiser from Amazon this time so I had better buyer protection. Item here: https://amzn.eu/d/0atLwNCX

Attempted to remove the second faulty digitiser using hairdryer, cotton, dental floss… and then IPA, sticky remover etc. This was an awful experience that caused damage to the original digitiser as well so that had to come off too. Bad times.

I checked the screen after doing that and found I had knackered the whole LCD display.

I sent the new digitiser back to Amazon for refund and ordered a whole LCD with digitiser attached. Only available from eBay for £70 but seems like an established and reputable seller Pardon our interruption...

Fitted that and it’s working a treat, I’d say 10/10. Time will tell but I’m feeling confident.

Conclusion: the videos and advice given was excellent to make a cheap replacement but I got unlucky with the first new part. Also DO NOT try and remove the old digitiser unless you have to. Good luck!

I'm closing my part in this discussion with an update. When an 'SOS' error code came up and advised a workshop visit and I took the van to my local VW Service depot I was told that the Head Unit could be replaced under my All In Warranty. This has now been done and I have a shiny new unit.
Only downside is the reversing camera could not be coded in as it was not an original fit in the van.

If the reversing camera worked with the old unit then presumably it will work with the new unit. You just need to go to someone other than VW. My guess is they won't code an aftermarket item to their factory kit.

That is indeed just what they said. The reversing camera was added to the donor van at the conversion company.
