Norfolk and Suffolk

Last time I parked in Great Yarmouth was a while back but was in a broads cruiser with my folks on a family holiday. It's quite... interesting... taking a low powered hire cruiser through the estuary and tides to transit between the two areas of The Broads.

My abiding memory was being woken by my Mum shouting in the middle of the night as she hadn't realised the mooring at the Yacht Station was tidal so upon seeing the green slimy Rockwall had concluded we had sunk...

You're probably beyond it now but I have great memories of the tranquility around Horsey Mere and the Windpump.
Horsey Mere is a nice spot...trouble is you have to drive part way through GY to get there, from here.
Best day with the dog on the beach. Free parking next to the beach, chip shop round the corner and pub with beer garden on the green. Brilliant park up. Few motorhomes on there so presumably they'll be stopping overnight?

Wheres that @True Romance?

Oh almost forgot to tell the tale of breakfast this morning. So as we had to be off by 10:00am breakfast was going to be a quick one of crunchy nut cereal. Imagine the scene. I'm stay down at the table with bowl and milk at the ready. The Mrs goes in the awning to fetch the cereal. At this point of our break it was out the box and the bag pegged shut. She passes me the bag which I then go to remove the peg ready to pour into the bowl and notice something dark inside? On closer inspection sat right in front of my eyes happy as Larry was a little mouse merrily chomping away at my crunchy nut. I was in so much shock that I didn't think to take a photo. Never had this before but we were camped right next to the wooded tree line. Obviously it took some chewing but managed to get it down. Can't afford to waste anything with the cost of living crisis. ;)

Well our wild animal encounters continue. This morning open the awning to find a Robin flying around. Currently in Southwold which is ace. Know its all weather dependent but this country is brilliant when it's nice.

We have moved on again. Stopped off at Southwold again on the way south. Then popped into Aldeburgh. Again what absolutely fantastic place. Great beach for the dog. Brilliant sea food stalls along the front. Not overly touristy.

Southwold.

Looks like the hot weather is ending tonight with rain and thunder forecast for tomorrow. Can't complain had 8 straight days of wall to wall sunshine and very hot temperatures.

Glad you are enjoying Suffolk @True Romance ...we too love the F&C's at Aldeburgh!

We are off to Wantisden too at the weekend, although its less than 30 mins away.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.!

After yesterday's blip in the weather almost normal service resumed today but significantly cooler.

Popped into Woodbridge for breakfast. Nice little town.

Then went over to Sutton Hoo to have a look around after seeing "The Dig" film the other year.

Final night here at Wantisden. If you want to be out in the sticks and like peace and quiet this is the place is for you.

This trip was our first time in both Norfolk and Suffolk. Can honestly say it's been one of our best holidays. Almost everywhere as been brilliant. Holt, Aldeburgh and Southwold some of the stand out places. All sites have also been brilliant (videos to follow). The weather, well its been amazing and we have been so lucky. Really can't complain about anything. Obviously still loads we haven't seen so will definitely be back to explore further. If you've never been to this part of the UK get it in your diary to get over here. It comes highly recommended.

Cheers to everyone's help and contributions in this thread.

Adnams is a fine brewery and Ghost Ship is... *chefs kiss*

Thanks for the travelogue, it reminded me that while I grew up regularly visiting due to the extended family's static van I've never taken MrsR to that side of the country. Need to rectify that.

I'm Soo glad you liked this part of the country @True Romance...its often overlooked but that could be seen as beneficial.

Your timing was perfect in terms of the weather and I enjoyed your reading your diary...look forward to the site videos too.

See you again soon !!

Channel 5 HD.... need to look for and watch on catch-up!

Far to hot for the Dog again (can't believe I keep saying this) so decided not to visit Cambridge. Popped over the St Ives (yes there's another one). Nice little town on the river. Then stopped at a Riverside pub on the way back to the site.

So all good things must come to an end. Sadly this is our last night. Honestly we've had the best time ever.

Brilliant sky for our last night and just had a spitfire fly over. Perfect.

Thanks to all that followed along.

Next adventure is a 3 week European road trip in 2024.

Ahhh, St Ives. Brings back some great memories. Lived in the area for a few years in the early 90s. Had one of my stag nights (several stag nights but just the one wedding!) in the pub in your first photo. Ended up in the river too!!

The Old Ferry Boat was a regular too.
