Insurance Companies

Spoke to LV. They think it picked up the wrong van type ie a Shuttle. Mine is a standard panel van conversion. Got a quote of £300 off them compared to my NFU renewal of £547! Guess it’s LV then!

Yep, had the same issue initially, as their web portal doesn’t seem to pick up correct vehicle for some reason on campers. But once on the phone they are spot on

I just went on line to LVE, went through the details, then got a msg saying they “don’t insure this type of car”. Will try a call.
I’m glad I’m not the only one! Please post if you get success when you ring.

About to pick up my first T6.1 on Saturday. Insurance has been very long winded. Just rang up Brentacre, they were very knowledgeable about transporters. All the mods i want to do will be free.

Id highly recommend anyone looking to get insurance to ring brentacre. For cost £395 per year.

@Another planet they should have passed you to their Thatcham branch who definitely insure self converted vans and modifications without the DVLA change. I recently moved to APlan Thatcham as I found their policy very flexible and reasonable.

I’ve had a “modified van” policy with A-Plan Thatcham since I bought it 5 years ago. Always been super competitive for me.

Thanks very much for this. The woman I spoke to insisted their bank of insurers wouldn't quote. I did say they were recommended on the forum but she was having none of it. Had great success with Brentacre though. Got a quote immediately (£320) which was £50 cheaper than my renewal quote from Admiral without remap and conversion. Took it straight away. Happy Days.

I have just insured my panel van with A Plan, it is going in for a full conversion in August when they will upgrade the cover and I just have to pay for the increase in value and put a tracker on it otherwise it won't be covered for theft.

Have to say, Aplan were great. Called my local branch and was put through to the specialist dept. After not being able to get a quote from Adrian Flux, it was nice to work with Aplan to get the insurance on my campervan sorted.

Got Adrian FLux camper insurance for panel van and 1 year to make it as camper. T6 4motion Highline with 32k value fully comp for £375!!! (10 years NCB)

I'm with JustKampers but as we have recently sold my wifes car we thought it might be an idea for her to insure the van while I kept on insuring my Audi. My JK insurance is up for renewal at the beginning of next month. Anyway, she is recently retired, has a better driving record than me (no speeding fines ever), is an IAM member, is also 8 years younger and still under 60. She phoned JK who advised that they would charge her £370 with me as a second driver and that was before adding on the Agreed Value element to the policy. I then phoned them myself and asked for the a renewal cost (obviously me as the insured and my wife as the named driver) and they came back with £340 including an Agreed Value of £38K. I just don't understand the logic as she is obviously a lesser risk than me (I've picked up three speeding fines in the last 4 years but only two are on the policy as I did the course on the first one to avoid points). Also we've both got full no claims. Perhaps it's all down to me being the owner of the van according to the V5C but it really doesn't make a lot of sense.

I was put off by the reviews of the Insurance Company they used. Perhaps they've changed.

Thanks everyone who has previously posted on this thread, very useful info as ever.

Been ringing around all morning today to renew my fully comprehensive campervan insurance, and thought I’d share my results / observations -

Bit of background - I am 58 years old, retired, owner and sole driver with clean licence and >9 years NCB (I have over 20 years, but insurers seem to stop counting at 9 years!). Mileage is limited to <5,000 miles annually. Living in West Kent. The van is valued at £40k and is parked off road when at the home address.

My renewal with Scenic (part of the Swinton group) went up from £331 to £366 this year - the existing policy is with Ageas, but Scenic aren’t using them now, hence the price rise...

After reading back through this thread, I then tried LV. Very helpful guy came back with a quote of £294 (protected NCB, Legal protection of £100k) with a compulsory xs of £200, BUT windscreen xs of £190!

Lifesure (a brokers) were very thorough, knowledgeable, and competitive, quoting me £296 on an AXA policy with £150 compulsory xs, and £60 windscreen xs.

Comfort (camper van specialist insurers who ‘recognise’ a lot of the professional conversion companies - see the list on their website) quoted £240 with £200 compulsory xs and £75 windscreen xs. Policy includes up to £5k person effects cover, £100k legal protection and 90 day green card, but oddly they don’t offer NCB protection (they store a copy of the existing NCB records, and update it at the end of the next year, if no claims made, apparently).

All the above emailed detailed quotes within minutes of my call.

Just got to read through it all carefully before committing - the devil is in the detail! - but likely to go with Comfort.

PS - I usually also try A Plan, Brentacre and Just Kampers, but won’t bother this year.

It takes time, but I’d say it is definitely worth ringing around!
