Insurance Companies

Disappointing, inconvenient, annoying, frustrating - maybe, but completely logical and not at all mad.

No drive = no designated parking spot = may be parked out of sight of house = higher risk of theft of/from van = doesn't meet new underwriter's appetite for risk.
Yeh I totally understand - no disagreement with it at all.
But just the fact insurers are happy to just sack it off instead of say adding 20% to premium. Must just not be worth the stress at the moment

We have used Comfort Insurance for a few years now. 2018 T6 LWB professional conversion, 8k/yr, 6 yrs NCB, just under £400 INCLUDING breakdown. Worth adding Comfort to the list of companies/brokers to try
is that including Agreed valuation

Nearly had the Buzz a year so now shopping round for insurance for year 2.

So far Aplan and Brentacre have advised that the do not insure electric vehicles (including vans).

My van insurance renewal is due this month & my current insurer, Markerstudy, are no longer offering terms on any new business or renewals according to my broker, who I've been with for quite a few years. The best they could find was £1267.80 with Sabre.

That's an increase of over 33% from last year. This is for a '72 plate 150ps with DSG box, panel van & used for work.

Went to my motorcycle insurers, (Allstyles although I think they now go under the name of Howdens) & they got it for me for £770, that was cheaper than it was last year by over £100, with Sabre !!!

Is Howden not the new name for A-Plan?
My insurance is due. SO I called the Thatchem Branch, who are supposed to be good for Trasporters and modified vehicles.
Due to my postcode starting with M they could me even get a quote for me. Its a joke as about 4 houses down the Close I live the postcode is no longer M, and is quite a cheap post code area. Work that one out. If I lived 50m or so further down the Close my van is far less likely to be stolen. Obvious isn't it.

If anyone has any good suggestions for bringing down a T6 Shuttle 2.0 insurance quote, I'm all ears (Van is un-modified other than taken rear 3 seats out)

Been with Brentacre for 4 yrs who, as per many i've read, say they've used their quota with Markerstudy and won't insure us now as we're a standard vehicle!?! They didn't write / phone to tell us. Only found out when I realised we hadn't received their renewal instructions and phoned them. Now got 1 week to sort.
Premium was £500 and £595 last 2 years.

Me and my wife (40's), 14yrs NCD (with a £2-3k claim in 2019). Clean driving records. 12k miles per yr. On street parking. S11 area of Sheffield.
Quotes £1000 to £1600 with co-op, howdens, A Flux, Direct line, privilege.
Phoning NFU today but not got high hopes as we'll be classed within a city and with on street parking.
Admiral £780 so may have to go with this.

Appreciate everything is context specific and I'm not here just to moan ....but would appreciate a heads up if anyone has any bright ideas of other companies.

TIA

After reading so many horror stories it was with great trepidation that I rang around yesterday for some insurance quotes. Is due on 21 Dec and always do it 21-24 days as recommended by Martin Lewis. This actually makes a difference to the price. So I'm 52, max no claims, 2018 start line camper parked on private driveway, 10k miles a year, partner is named driver (not for commuting for her) metatrak S5 deadlock pro.

Fully comp, protected NCD, European cover. Like for like cover from last year as far as I can see.
Was £464 last year with A plan (now Howden).
Renewal quote was £499.
Adrian flux was £370! Couldn't believe it. Slightly higher excess of £450 with this policy but I'm happy with that risk. Naturally I snapped their arm off! Actually got a bit worried that I've missed something but having read through all the documents it seems not.

Now on the annual merry-go-round of insurance quoting for renewal in January. Are Transporters now becoming the new Jaguar Land Rover fiasco where no one will insure or only at inflated premiums?
Having issues with declaring the wheels, suspension, lining out, stereo 'modifications' with a few of the often quoted key providers here who allegedly specialise in this area of insurance. Looks like I'll be wasting a few days of my life online form filling and phoning around. 3hrs today so far. Current quotes are 50% increase on this years premium.

A 50% increase seems about par for the course currently.

That 50% equates to £300+ increase. That increase alone is more than an annual premium on my other vehicles including a Porsche and EV.
Not sure if the "EV fire risk" thing is real or internet BS, but if it turns out so, just watch EV premiums rocket.

Internet EV hating BS. More EV's/Hybrids on the road than ever and a few may have self combusted, but how many cars/vans self ignite annually.... seen plenty of ICE car/van/truck fires in my time. Personally not seen an EV fire yet. Just insured our Leaf again which we have owned for 5+ yrs for pretty much the same premium since buying it, always been in the region of £300.

For feedback, most usual van insurers fell down due to being a private 'day van' and neither a full commercial/business vehicle nor fully converted camper. I was questioned several times of why chose a van and not a car, as if I was hiding its intended end use, carrying of goods, multi drop delivery, tradesperson etc. Also being modified suspension, wheels, lining out and/or the annual mileage travelling to work offices added complications to many. What a box ticking minefield owning a 'van' is when you are not 'vanilla' in flavour.

Adrian Flux, Brightside and a few others mentioned here were 2-3 times my current premium. Direct Line bounced me to Brightside. Brentacre have yet to send me a their renewal quote despite an email reminder from me, JustKampers was a competitive quote slightly higher than current premium and great telephone service but it was Howdens/A-Plan specialist division (the Thatcham office had to refer me to their specialist vehicle dept) came in today with pretty much same premium as I am currently paying and covering all my quirks. I'll take it!

Just had renewal from NFU, £470 compared to £560 last year and interest free monthly payments. 51 year old with 4 years NCD, full campervan conversion based on a 2018 LWB Kombi.

Not agreed value, market value up to £75000. It was a professional conversion by Knights so I have invoices for all the work. PE30.
Do you have it in writing that the conversion costs will be covered in the event of a write-off?

I ended up changing my insurance provider part way through the year because I could not get an agreed value (from A-Plan), went with another insurer (Adrian Flux) who used Trinity Lane as their 'agreed value' underwriter. A-Plan were very slippery in their approach to my non agreed value. Be aware!

Just in the process of having to find insurance after Brentacre would no longer cover me. tried all the usual places - A-plan, A Flux, Just Kampers.
They were all between £1380 - £1750 - this is going from £500 last year this was a kick in the nuts.
A friend of mine works in insurance and recommended going on Quotezone.co.uk/van-insurance/modified.

I’ve managed to get a price of £1075 through One Click.
Still double but better than the usual guys.

(This is on a 2018 T28 doing 20000 miles for work)
