Good read this one. I have just tried Brentacre for my new to be van, collecting tomorrow.

Brentacre were £160 more than my current insurer LV, and that was with all of the MODS listed to them which I didn't think they would accept.

Is there a catch, am I missing something

Have you tried Caravanguard? Just had a quote off them for our new van that is cheaper than my cuurrent car insurance, after expecting it to be a lot higher.

So for the last 2 years I have been with the Camping and Caravan Club, Club Care insurance at £322pa for the California.
This year the renewal jumped to £526. I called them and they said that ERS who was the underwriter have withdrawn from this sector and the new price was the cheapest from the market.

I went onto LV who we have Mrs Loz's Mini Cooper with, and they quoted me online at £165 including listed modifications, so gone with that.
Is that fully comp, Loz? How many miles per annum?

@GRM2004 The policy is 8000 PA, with business use. Fully Comp.

I will try Caravanguard now though

After calling around several insurance companies, Brentacre have provided me with the best quote for my van. Good to see that they also provided a discount for having ghost II installed along with my scorpion tracker, as I know most insurance still won't accept Ghost devices. Even with my 6 points, additional driver and insured value up to £60k, it was only £100 more than what I was paying for a 2009 Peugeot Partner. Thanks for the list of specialist brokers

I renewed my van insurance tonight with LV. I've been with them for a few years now however i wasn't looking forward to this renewal as i the time had come to declare all of the camper mods carried out over the past few months.
well boy did i get a surprise, change from panel van to motor caravan - an extra whopping £10. Result

Hey guys,

Apologies if this question has been asked before... I'm just probably hoping for a quick advice:

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that will cover and pay out the actual value of the vehicle (California Ocean) including all upgrades?

Does such an insurer even exist or is it a dead-end?

Just been offered a quote from Brentacre but when I checked again the actual underwriter was Marketstudy with 90% of BAD REVIEWS!

Just looking for advice to ensure in the event, I will be compensated the value I believe the van is worth.

Thanks!

I spent a king's ransom on our van and conversion and wanted an agreed value policy at £80k. This scared most companies off - a guy at Brentacre said they'd only provide cover up to the cost of a California as 'you could buy one of those for less...'! I pointed out that if I'd wanted a California I'd have bloody bought one! Adrian Flux were good - happy to provide an agreed value policy and no problem with all the modifications - wheels/suspension etc. However, needless to say that with an agreed value like that, my premium is a tad higher than @Loz even with max no-claims.... Hmmmm...should have bought a California!!:slow rofl:

Fab Van, ours gets delivered in 6 weeks but touching 100k how much did you have to pay in the end?

A-Plan defo worth a try if you have not got it sorted already. They were not insisting on a tracker for an agreed valuation of £53K....bit fitted one of the cheaper ones anyway.

I’ve checked with A-Plan and the cheapest quotation was £3000 for a £62k agree value ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I renewed with Admiral and will be getting gap insurance to cover add-ons.

I took out my insurance for my van starting this week. Unfortunately as it is not my main vehicle, I only had 4 years worth of NCD to transfer over. A Plan quoted almost £1000, no requirement for a tracker. Adrian Flux £700 with a requirement for a tracker. Comfort wanted around a £1000, but i took out insurance with Caravan Guard. They were a really helpful company to deal with, and quoted me £530, protected NCD, full UK recovery, 9 months European cover and a mileage of 9K a year. RSA are the underwriters. No requirement for a tracker.
Adrian Flux then lowered their price by £100. It really pisses me off why they can't offer the best price when you first contact them and I told him as much!

Hey @Nige_g this seems like a good deal… did you agree on the value of the vehicle? Did you have many addon’s covered by their policy. What was your veihicle details more or less to comapare if poss please

No additional add ons as such other than legal expenses and U.K. recovery (which I didn’t need but was included anyway) and only 2 modifications, wheels and suspension. Took into account my driving experience and being an advanced driver. We spoke about the value of it and asked me if I agreed it was a true value. Not sure if that constitutes an agreed value though. I had to supply photos (which was a PITA as the only ones I had were on the website, I sent them the link, but they wanted my own ones which I didn't have. They refused therefore to give me a quote first off despite the photo's being professional and with the vehicles VRM being shown and loads of photos with the conversion as well as the list of what the conversion consisted of. I gave them feedback as to how ridiculous that was. They telephoned me back an hour or so later, saying they agreed with my feedback and would quote me using professional photos as proof and not ones that I had taken, which I thought was good customer service).

It is a fully professional conversion on a 2019 T6 (T30) LWB 150 ps.

Just reading everybodies threads on insurance.
when you are shopping around please take care. One insurer I know excludes cooking risks. So if you set fire to to the van because you over cooked your bacon you could be in for a nasty surprise. Same insurer has an issue with carriage of gas bottles. Barmy. To be fair It was a camper van on a commercial fleet policy and without naming names - they used to be called Norwich union. This sort of stuff is in the policy wording and as the insured it is your duty to read that and not for the insurer to tell you.
also £50k is a usual trigger for a tracker. Some are higher at £75k and some a bit lower. Insurers want that ham approved and not a phone app. Dodging by £5 to get you under £50k is bad form and poor advice. if you suffer a total loss and a loss adjuster looks into the claim you could get the claim rejected. But if you value your van, get a tracker.
hope that gives a bit of insight.
