Hookup And Consumer Unit Under The Bonnet

Hi there! Appreciate your post was a few years back but I'm about to put a CU under the bonnet on my T6. How did you secure yours in the end? I can see the "foot" that you referred to, but not what to fix to it? Many thanks!
I cut the plastic foot off.
In its place is a steel foot welded to the upright angle iron you saw in the photo

Mine is a full camper conversion done by Tonke in the Netherlands. The hookup is under the bonnet while the CU is at back of the van in a small cupboard where the Victron charger and the (camper) fuses are as well.

The CU is outside the pic (sorry) just below the fusebox. (the cut wires are unused > pre-installed for future options/upgrades)

Considering putting the CU inside the van.

Is a cable run from under the bonnet to behind the drivers seat an ok distance?

Most installs run from under the bonnet to under the passenger seat so depending on your cable routing it doesn’t add too much difference just an small bit extra only protected by the camp site rcd I wouldn’t worry too much

Where have people mounted the CU under the bonnet?

I've routed the cable through on the drivers side. There is plenty space but struggling to find mounting points.

Realistically the inlet could be mounted on the bulkhead or close.

Then the cable run would only be from directly behind the pedals, to behind the drivers seat.

Think i have got my choices down to these two, will they work under the bonnet?

The Rayne one is smaller, but has no reverse polarity light which seems useful, but is 6A/16A Type A. The 12 Volt Planet one is 10A/6A but Type C.

If it's gonna go under the bonnet, then you need an external rated one as the dust will get into the switches and stop them functioning properly.

So look at one that's got the front cover.

Are you sure you got enough space for those?

Thats my question really, as i want it under the bonnet - but it seems people are using much smaller consumer units with 2 x RCBOs? But have not (yet) been able to find one pre-made with that setup

I don't have a main switch.

I have 2 x RCBO's. One feeds into the van for a couple of sockets and the other feeds an outlet that i connect an extension to for in the awning.

I did mine based of all the info in this thread which was super helpful. Did the Wylex Box with BG double pole RCBOs. If you want some more images of how I routed it all, let me know. I used heavy duty velcro to secure bottom and side and hasn't budged!
