Hilo Roof fitted by Old Harry Camper Co.

I've been itching to get a pop top fitted for a while now, so I was on a waiting list with my local HiLo fitter for about 6 months (he's very busy). When the time finally came to fit the roof towards the end of 2018 the guy decided he didn't want to fit standalone pop tops anymore, he'd only fit a roof as part of a full conversion.

So I enquired with HiLo to see if there was another fitter in my area (Poole) and they were in the process of appointing/training a new fitter.

Finally in January I was able to place an order with VW Transporter Conversion Specialists & Campervan Hire in Dorset

I was slightly nervous as they are a small 'one man band' and my roof would be only the second HiLo that they had installed.

The great thing about a small company is dealing with the owner/fitter/aftersales all in one person (Alan), the communication was excellent all the way through the process from beginning to end.

Whilst the van was with him I asked him to fit a Webasto heater and rear fake glass windows.

Apart from a couple of supply issues that were beyond his control the timing and quality of his work has excelled my already pretty high expectations.

So here it is, absolutely loving the low profile look, Friday 13:00 cannot come quick enough when the 'out of office' message gets put on my emails.

Hello Insert.

Thanks for the post. Good to hear you were pleased with Alan’s work. I’m booked in for a HiloSport in June with him. Can’t wait.

Anything you would have done differently or are you Mr Happy?

I’m about 3 weeks in, camped for 3 nights and popped the roof up for the last two weekends whilst sat watching my kids crabbing/paddle boarding etc.

I’ve got a slight rattle from the two locking bolts, HiLo forgot to send a couple of rubber washers to prevent them vibrating. The washers are being sent on to me to fit, or Alan can fit, but it’s not difficult to fit them at all. And the main locking bolt at the front is a bit tricky to engage single handedly, but other than that there’s nothing bad to report at all, I’m very pleased.
