Dellmassive`s Camper Van Adventure

Already had a chat with Lee tonight on the phone and explained the differences between them, I suppose it’s like comparing an Apple with a Pear or a T6.1 with a T7 🤷‍♂️……it’s like everything in life, you pay for what you get 👍

I’ll send them out either tomorrow or Wednesday mate @Dellmassive

Here’s me thinking that’s a fair price 🤷‍♂️
Had brembo before on other vehicles very overrated and not very good seems like there relying on the name only these days

I have 330mm Brembos on my Volvo.

£85 a pair from a reputable retailer (could have bought them cheaper but wanted to avoid counterfeits.)

The largest option on the T6 are only 10mm greater diameter, and 5mm greater thickness.

That's minimal extra volume of material - I've not done the maths but it'll be a single digit percentage.

Casting/ forging and machining costs will be comparable.

Internal construction, vanes, etc, will be similar.

Metallurgically they're probably identical. Standard Brembo disc blanks come from the same foundry in India that Lockheed-Delphi's do.

So how is a purchase price of 250% (for the rather smaller T6 option) over my Volvo size in any way justifiable? Clearly it isn't, its just another example of the VW tax at work. We're being bent over for no other reason than the industry has decided it can.

Sorry Dell, I'll leave the rant there before I accidentally do a Linekar!

On a more positive note, let us know how you get on with the Nutexa kit Dell. If were going to cry when our change purse comes out it may as well be for decent gear.

So, why not explain the difference on here? I'm curious and at some point will need to buy new discs/pads.

What are the differences ?, and why not make a point to post this info publicly so we can all make an informed choice next time we buy ?

@Dellmassive, So the Nutexa are £110 more than Brembo? Thats almost 50% more expensive? Im puzzled why you wouldn't get the Brembos!
AutoDoc ship from Europe so take days to weeks to get to you.

Nutexa offer next day free delivery.

AutoDoc are a massive European company, so can offer fair prices by huge bulk buying and central warehousing.

Brembo on the other hand seem to be running on there previous reputation from preference breaks...I've had a few sets now and don't think they are as good as they used to be.

Pagid on the other hand has been my go to disc and pad guys on all my vans once out of warranty.... And I'd always purchased from ECP or CP4L. But now they are quoting mad prices.... Not sure why ?

Having a chat with @Nutexa Frictions

Earlier they went over the various technical reasons as to why there kit was much better than the standard BREMBO..... In a nutshell they use more expensive and better materials in there production. Meaning that the pads and discs should last longer than the standard others, with better performance.

I'm still running the Nutexa set on the van.... We'll see how long they last.

I've opted for standard discs for this is van.... Not drilled or grooved.

But did notice the mad Horse shoe pattern.... Apparently that's Nutexa own patented product.

Either way.

I've decided to keep it UK.

A UK based company.

A UK based manufacturer

A Forum Trade supplier

I'll do a post of fitting them when I get a chance.

....

You can go see the @Nutexa Frictions

Guys at Camper Jam this year as well as other shows.

We'll be heading over to see Russ & Jan at the Stand for cup of tea (Beer) at CJ25.

Thank you @Nutexa Frictions for the super fast UPS next day delivery.

lets check them out.

( these actually arrived earlier in the week (following day) - but I've been super busy with work so only just had the chance to unbox them.

these are the fronts, we went for the plain discs on this van.

they come with the awesome matt black paint protective coating, which in my opinion is way better than the standard oily discs in a plastic bag that you get from the other manufacturers, as these just need cleaning off before you even get started.

1748071964116.png1748071979358.png

The pads have the rubberized rear pad that helps to stop vibration and squealing . . . .

1748072003512.png

The front pads are square edged . . . .

1748072023050.png

They stand they have the standard OEM brake where sensor clip and also standard caliper retention clip. . .

++++++++++++++++++

These are the rears,

1748072081466.png

Again they are vented, but plain un-grooved or un-dimpled.

1748072123506.png

The rear pads have bevelled edges, I'm not sure exactly why the rears would have the bevelled edges in the front not but maybe @Nutexa Frictions can give us the heads up on that?

1748072168148.png1748072221253.png

Again the rear pads have the rubberized backing pads . . .

I got to say that as a set they do look awesome, I just love the black look.

They remind me of the BTCC carbon ceramic brake setups that the Touring cars have.

the black coating is defo a feature / benefit . . and i think they should make more of a thing about it.

1- protects the disc metal from production to fitting from rust, grubby hands etc
2- aids the bed-in process as you can see when the disc is bedded as all the black wears off.
3- makes install easier/faster as you don't need to pre-clean the oils off the new discs (as you do with others)
4- it just looks great
5- The black coating (which remains on the non-contact areas) also stops the edge and centre of the discs from rusting.
6- what else?

You also get the standard recommended bedding in procedure sheet which states the obvious.

That is a great addition if you don't normally do your own brakes and more than aware of the correct bedding in procedure.

There is also the sheep with all the socials and in case you was wondering about the logo . . . . . . Yes that is actually their van.

Thanks again Russ and Jen for the prompt delivery etc etc etc

I've still got some life left in the pads and discs on the van so I'm gonna let that roll for a while until the low friction level warning like comes on.

At that point I'll swap them all out and add some pictures of the procedures.

There will be a few extra steps on our bus as we have the wheel spaces all around but no Biggie I just need to get the recommended torque settings for the H&R wheel spacer hub plate bolts

+++++++++++++++

It's worth pointing out that these performance break sets do not need to be expensive. . .

They list four disc Styles for the T6 van ranging in price from plain-£130.20 to dimpled&groovrd-£212.48

On my VAN I went for the fancy fancy dimpled / grooved all in Bingo Bango fancy Ones.

Back for our BUS we went for the standard plain discs

+++++++++++++++

these are the options for the standard 308mm front discs:

plain £130.20

N-Hook - £212.48

This has piqued my interest.

Many discs come geomet coated now, although black is unusual and looks fantastic. The discs are exactly the same material as most others.

It's the pads that interest me, as that's where the recipe is likely to differ from rivals. If you report back positively then that'll be where I get my next brakes from. I don't mind paying a bit extra to support a British firm the the item is a good performer.

By all accounts the discs are "High Carbon Steel content" and the pads are there own performance blend.

have you seen my VAN thread, where i fit the big boys?

.

that was Jan 2024 - and they are still going strong,

the last time i looked the pads were looking low, maybe 20%.

so ill report how long they lasted. (im a heavy T32 T6 with 50/50 motorway/city driving)

I'm sure ill be needing a new pads set on the fronts soon.

i normally do two sets of front pads in the time of one rear set.

and normally two sets of pads per disc swap. (based on the last 17yrs of running Transporters)

I have these on the rear-already had something similar on the front before I heard of Nutexa.
I think they create a bit more dust than the previous oem pads, but work well. Not sure I’d notice much performance improvement from just the rears.
But the high carbon content does seem to affect their susceptibility to rust. I’ve had the van parked up for a couple of weeks in the wind and rain and the discs are still rust free. The black coating (which remains on the non-contact areas) also stops the edge and centre of the discs from rusting.
I’m impressed with the quality.

ill add that to the benefits of the black coating above,
