Clanking Noise From Dsg Gearbox In Park And Neutral

I had my DMF and clutch pack changed around 25K, then the complete gearbox/DMF/Clutch pack replaced under warranty before 50k (and also a few months out of warranty !)

That's rather worrying! o_O It does make you wonder if the replacement DMFs will fail again or have VW introduced a design change/change of supplier for the DMF?

My gearbox was bad from day 1 it was just VW dragging it out and trying other avenues before replacing the whole box but fair play to them I ended up a few months out of warranty and as it was an ongoing thing it all got sorted without too much heartache and I still got a courtesy for a week while they had mine swapping the box

2017 Lwb only had a few months and the hortid ticking/tapping noise appeared mainly from cold in park or neutral, I also had what could only be described as a engine and box wabble feeling going through 2nd to 3rd. Took it to VW Cordwallis at Heathrow yesterday and just had a call that the dual mass and bolts have been replaced under warranty 53k on the clock.

I had that once just before they did the work. Apparently, when the DMF is faulty, the balance weights have too much travel. They can then get stuck at one end of their travel and cause a nasty vibration which the engine sensors can also detect.

Just following this up.... my 2016 140 DSG T6 with 10,305 miles on it and 10 days left on the 3 year warranty went into VW yesterday.

No quibble, they are replacing the DMF due to the same issues documented in this thread and the oil leak is caused by the bolts as mentioned above so they are being done too. Plus heated mirror on passenger side that doesn’t heat up is being replaced.

All under warranty - booked for two days next week and a free courtesy van.

Just make sure you keep a record of all contact with VW and the outcome, dates/times/details etc, they will undoubtedly say there’s nothing wrong
Jumping a bit ahead and assuming it doesn’t get resolved then book it back in before your warranty expires and keep logging it, if your concerned there’s an issue and your dealer says there’s not I would contact VWCC before your warranty expires and raise your concerns with them and keep logging the issue so if it gets worse you will hopefully have some recourse (but expect a battle)
Wise words there. Wish I knew about this when I took the van for service around 24k as I had the same noise thinking it was the A/C ..as it was getting louder when I turn the A/C on which I told VW about it and they only checked the A/C. They obviously ignored the sound as probably wanted to drag it out until warranty expires.. which it did last year.
Fast forward and today while I picked the van from same VW garage after had the cam belt + water pump changed + aux belt, I've asked what's the cranky sound all about and been told straight away its the flywheel and it'll cost about £1800 to sort out.

Now my question is.. since the van is out of warranty, should I get VW to change it or go privately ? Maybe someone here can advise me. Thanks

Classic flywheel, mine started at 40k vw wouldn't do it under warranty so paid for it to be done privately.
may I ask where you had it done and how much it cost? looking to do mine as well as its out of warranty and vw charging way too much

Hi anyone here had there flywheel done on a t6 DSG . What sort of price am I looking at
Just had mine replaced today at vw colindale. Cost me £1800 which i think its a bit steep considering what others got if done for.
Mine was on 79.5k miles, could feel the rattle through the steering wheel and noisy when parked/neutral. Noise&rattle gone now and hopefully it’ll last just as much or longer.
